"I like you."
"Yes, honey, I like you too. I wouldn't be dating you if I didn't like you, silly."
Yugyeom twirled your hair around his fingertips as your head rested on a pillow in his lap. You had shared a long day of watching movies and cuddling on his day off of schedules.
"No, I mean... I like like you."
"This reminds me a lot of third grade."
You smiled up at your boyfriend as he grinned in return, keeping his eyes on the soft locks of your hair falling like a waterfall over the pillow. He knew you loved when people played with your hair because it felt so relaxing, and it was a habit he had picked up in your few months together.
"Except third graders don't really mean it when they say it, but I do."
"That's a good point. All those swings and jungle gyms can really get between you and your true feelings."
You expected Yugyeom to laugh but his face fell a bit. Your usual cheeky boyfriend looked suddenly down, and it made your heart hurt to ever think of him being sad.
"Hey," You sat up to take his hand and face him, "What's wrong, babe?"
"Nothing," Yugyeom mumbled, but he was never good at hiding his emotions.
"You know you can tell me anything, babe." You reached up and gently ran your hand through his bright red hair, getting it out of his face so you could see him better while he stared down at his lap twiddling his fingers.
"I'm nervous," He admitted.
"What about?"
"How you'll react when I tell you I love you."
He caught you so off guard that you froze, and you could tell by his expression that that wasn't the right thing to do. His eyes fell and he started to pull his hand out of yours when you finally comprehended his words.
"I love you too." You held on firmly to his hand and made him look you in the eyes. "Yugyeom, I love you."
"You do?" Yugyeom's eyes were sparkling and he looked more vulnerable than you had ever seen him. In the time you had been dating you'd seen multiple sides of him, from his perky and silly side to the quietly anxious guy he became when he was worried about his group or about one of the more serious parts of his life that you thought nobody his age should have to deal with. Sometimes people underestimated him because of his age or the happy-go-lucky person he always was on screen, but you knew better than most people that he could be as nervous and insecure as anyone else, and you were grateful that he wasn't afraid to show you that side, so you could try to make sure he knew how incredible he was.
"Of course I do," You chuckled, scooting closer to him, "I've loved you for quite a while now. I'm honestly surprised you couldn't tell, Bambam says he's known forever and that I get a really dumb and obvious grin on my face whenever I look at you."
"Are you serious?! I've been nervous about telling you for so long, he should've said something!" You couldn't help but laugh at his expression which immediately switched to being flabbergasted.
"Would you have believed him if he did say something?"
"Okay... probably not."
"Well, it doesn't matter either way," You snuggled against Yugyeom's chest and he tightened his arm around you while placing a kiss on the top of your head, "Because I love you and that's what matters."
"I love you too, Y/N."
He turned your head towards him so he could press his lips softly against yours. You cupped his face with your hand and moved your lips against his. The kiss was sweet and you tried as hard as you could to convey to him just how much you loved him. Maybe by running your fingertips along the edge of his hairline or kissing him harder you could explain to him that you meant those words with all of your heart. Little did you know that he was trying to do exactly the same thing.
