It wasn't uncommon for you to spend your afternoons lost in the music of your violin. It took only moments for the walls of the practice room to melt around you and disappear into blank space as you closed your eyes and let the instrument become a new addition to your body, an appendage in itself. Your breathing was one with the melody and the bow became merely an extension of your arm.

Ever since you were a child and curiously found your mom's violin in your parent's closet, you had been drawn to the beautiful instrument. It felt fragile in your palms but once it was resting on your shoulder it became indestructible, as did you. Although your family had to sit through countless hours of botched notes and the high-pitched screaming of strings played incorrectly, they knew it was worth it to see you close your eyes and enter a new world of your own at your first recital. They also found it incredibly hilarious how their clumsy, shy daughter had someone become so infatuated with such a graceful and soft instrument.

It had been a tough day as any other and you had come to an empty room of your university's music studio to practice until your muscles relaxed and you could finally breathe again. Plus, you had a showcase performance with the orchestra coming up, in which you had been chosen for a solo, and you would rather fling yourself into the sun than mess up in front of everyone and their mother.

Taking a seat in one of the empty chairs, you pulled out your sheet music for Mozart's Violin Concerto No.3 in G major, and set to work. After a few exercises to warm up you played the first note of the piece.

You began slowly in allegro, playing each note crisply. You had mastered the opening after weeks of practice, and now it came naturally by second nature. The tempo slowly grew and you blossomed along with it, hearing the soft oboe accompaniment in your head.

As the piece continued you closed your eyes and focused on the music, trying to match what you heard to what you imagined. It had always been one of your favorite violin concerto's, and you were dedicated to knowing it like the back of your hand.

You were too engrossed in playing to notice the light footsteps approaching in the hallway outside. Jackson's eyes flickered from door to door, looking for practice room B, the one he'd always heard you mentioning was your favorite. He had assumed when you didn't answer your phone that you must be practicing, and he decided to come surprise you. It also didn't hurt that you had been preparing for some special performance for weeks but hadn't allowed him to listen to you practice, even just a few measures.

The soft, familiar sound of a violin began to fill the air as he walked closer to his destination. Soon he was standing outside of the door behind which he saw you playing through a small window in the wood. As quietly and carefully as he could he opened the cracked door wide enough to peer in with a perfect view of you and your instrument.

Silently he admired you as you moved the bow purposefully against the strings of your violin, a sight he always loved to see whenever you would allow him to, which was unfortunately not often.

He took careful note of how your full lips pursed ever so slightly and how small strands of your hair fell across your face without you noticing. Your eyebrows furrowed as you struggled through a particularly difficult portion, but soon your expression smoothed out once again, leaving Jackson breathless. He was taken aback by your beauty in that moment, completely in your element as you became one with the violin.

Suddenly you froze, pulling away your bow in frustration. Once again you had messed up a difficult note. Sighing, you wondered if you would ever get it right.

You jumped as Jackson walked in and began clapping enthusiastically, nearly making you drop your violin in surprise.

"Jackson!" You sputtered, "What are you doing here?"

"I came to surprise you," He said, pulling over a chair and taking a seat beside you. He leaned over and placed a small peck on your cheek, which had you blushing even harder than before.

"I didn't know you were listening," You said shyly, moving your loose hair behind your ear.

"That's because if you did, you would have stopped."

"Yeah, because I don't want you to hear me royally fail," You set your violin in your lap and admired it's strings with embarrassment.

"Are you kidding me?" Jackson exclaimed, his eyebrows scrunching together in an adorable way that made your lips perk up at the corners, "That was incredible! I don't know why you won't let me listen when you sound so wonderful."

You mumbled a thank you, to which Jackson took your hand for a moment and gave it a gentle and reassuring squeeze.

"I want to hear more!" Your boyfriend said, to which you harshly shook your head.

"No way."

"Why not? I love watching you play!"

Jackson threw his puppy dog eyes at you, and you knew you were toast. After all, if you couldn't gather enough courage to perform for your boyfriend, how were you supposed to perform in front of an auditorium full of people?

"Fine," You sighed, placing your violin back in its comfortable spot on your shoulder. "Any requests?"

"I want to hear the rest of what you were just practicing." You gave him a hesitant look, and he continued, "It was almost as lovely as you are."

Jackson chuckled as you rolled your eyes and positioned your bow to begin a few measures before where you had stopped.

Although it was more difficult to focus with your boyfriend's curious gaze on you, you soon fell quickly back into the music. You led up to the part you had previously botched, and to your surprise you sailed through it smoothly when you expected to mess up even worse than before since Jackson was watching. Something about him seemed strangely to calm you down, and your muscles relaxed into the music as you finished the piece smoothly.

Jackson's applause rang out once again and you grinned at him proudly.

"I can't believe I'm dating such a talented musician," He gushed as you laughed at him.

"Shouldn't I be the one saying that?!" You insisted.

"Will I be allowed to attend this performance of yours?" Jackson continued, leaning closer to you.

"I suppose so," You let out a loud fake sigh, "But only if you promise to be my lucky charm."

"Of course," Jackson replied, placing a kiss on your lips, "I'll be one cheering the loudest in the audience."
