Jackson strolled into his university's library with his lips pursed, still frustrated after his walk from the dorm. Of course his laptop had decided to turn off right in the middle of writing an essay due the next day. Well, he hadn't actually written any of it yet, but now he would be forced to spend the evening at the public computers, which would surely lead to even more distraction.

The straps of his backpack strained his shoulders and his grumpy footsteps were muffled by the carpeted floor. Soon he was walking downstairs towards the studying area, thinking he might have to pull nearly an all-nighter to pull off the essay. He sat down at a random computer, took a deep breath to calm down, and set to work.

A while later the table around him was completely covered in his research and notes, even though a blank page on the screen was still dauntingly staring him down. The blinking cursor seemed to mock him.

In Jackson's frustration his eyes began to wander, hopelessly searching for something to inspire his analyzation of political motives in the Goguryeo dynasty. His gaze found itself on a bright purple item sitting beside the keyboard at the computer next to him.

Slowly he looked around for somebody who might have been at the desk recently, but he hadn't seen anyone there in his time working. Curiosity quickly overcame him and he reached over to grab the object, realizing it was attached to the keyboard.

Who would leave their USB here? Jackson asked himself, simultaneously wondering how they would even manage to do so when it was such an obnoxious color. He figured it was best to leave it there, because its owner must realize at some point that it was missing, and would go back to get it at that computer.

Grumpily he pulled his attention back to his essay and did his best to focus. However, a paragraph into it he couldn't help but notice the USB in his peripheral, and wonder about who had forgotten it. There were hundreds of students that went through the library every day, so it could have been sitting there still plugged in for hours. Or maybe he passed the person leaving on his way in. Did the library have a lost and found he could return it to? Probably... Jackson wasn't sure why he had so many questions, but he supposed the mysterious USB simply was more exciting than his history paper.

As difficult as it was, Jackson managed to get down ten thousand words, as awful as they may be, and decided that it wasn't going to get any better no matter how long into the night he worked on it. Sluggishly he packed up his stuff and pulled out his own USB, tossing it in his backpack.

Just as Jackson was about to walk away, he paused. The purple USB was still sitting there, for anyone to take. What if somebody with ill intentions took it? He thought, although he had no idea what that would entail. Maybe I could just take it home and glance through it, there were sure to be pictures or a name in it, so at least he could identify the owner and leave it in their student mailbox...

He grabbed it before he could think better of the action, and told himself to blame his sleepy brain if he regretted the decision later.

The next morning, amidst bed head and a bowl of cereal, Jackson was glad to find that his laptop had decided to stop being an idiot and turned on like any other day. He had a few hours to spare before history class, and although he could be revising his paper, he instead plugged in the mysterious USB.
