The light breeze blew wisps of hair in your face, which you quickly brushed behind your ear before tightening your thin jacket. You hadn't expected the fall day to be so cold when you decided to take your dog for a walk, but you had just reached the dog park and it was too late to run back and grab a real coat.
"C'mon Kermit," You said, reaching down to unhook the leash from your italian greyhound's collar once the gate to the park was locked. Of course you had remembered to dress the pup in a warm coat, and forgotten yourself.
Standing up you glanced around the park, which was mostly empty on the chilly day. Your dog took off running towards a yorkshire terrier, and soon they were trotting around like best friends. You smiled at the cute scene and gave an awkward nod to who you presumed was the owner of the small dog.
With a sigh you took a seat on a nearby bench, keeping an eye on your dog while pulling out the book you had somehow managed to fit in your purse. Occasionally Kermit would run over and you'd give him a pat before he took off running again. The dog park was a daily errand for the two of you, as your small apartment didn't have nearly enough space for Kermit. However, it got you out of the house everyday, and Kermit seemed perfectly happy with the arrangement.
You were deep into the novel when you heard the familiar clang of the metal gate opening. Your eyes flew up, making sure your dog wasn't anywhere near the exit. Just as a guy with a small white dog closed the gate behind him, Kermit flew over to you and excitedly jumped on your lap.
"Hey lil' guy!" You exclaimed, laughing as your dog gave you a lick on the face.
A small bark sounded from the right, and Kermit's ears perked up curiously. Soon the dog shot from your lap like a bullet, leaving you alone in your spot.
The small white dog who had just arrived was barking excitedly at your dog, who was easily twice as tall. Worried Kermit would be a bit too excited for the tiny puppy, you quickly shoved the book in your bag and walked over to the two.
"Careful Kermie," You said cautiously, earning an excited bark from both dogs.
"Don't worry," The mystery guy said with a smile, his face nearly hidden by a large scarf, "Coco's small, but she's pretty feisty."
"Seems like it," You chuckled, watching the two dogs trot around, the smaller leading their two-pup pack.
The two of you stood in silence for a moment. You shivered in the breeze, feeling uncomfortable around the stranger.
"What's your dog's name?" He asked, pulling down his scarf a bit, giving you a better view of his face. His eyes were kind and he didn't seem to ever stop smiling.
"Kermit," You said shyly, unable to hold back a grin thinking of your dog and adventure partner.
"Ah. Is he full grown?"
"What?" You asked, quirking an eyebrow.
"Is he a baby greyhound?" He specified causing you to chuckle.
"No, he's an italian greyhound," You chuckled, "He's full grown."
Silence once again surrounded the two of you, the only sound being the occasional dog bark and wind fluttering the few leaves still hanging on to trees for dear life. You glanced beside you at the cute guy, who was still grinning at his dog.
"So your dog's name is Coco," You began, searching everywhere in yourself for confidence, "What's your name?"
"Youngjae," He smiled. Youngjae had one of those smiles that made you wonder if it could cure cancer. "And you?"
"Y/N," You grinned flirtily.
"Do you come here often, Y/N?" Youngjae asked cheesily, earning a laugh from you.
"In fact, I do," You winked back, hoping your face was already pink from the cold so he wouldn't notice your blush.
"Hm," He hummed cutely, "Maybe I should come here more, than."
Before you could reply, something caught your attention from the corner of your eye. You turned just in time to see Kermit humping Coco a few feet away.
"Oh my god!" You yelled in surprise, running over and picking Kermit up. Youngjae laughed loudly before picking up his own dog. "I'm so sorry!"
"It's fine," He chuckled. His laugh was nearly as beautiful as his smile. "Don't worry about it."
"Well," You stammered, embarrassed. "I should probably go... Kermit and I have engagements this afternoon."
"You do?" He replied, pushing past the awkward atmosphere. Or, at least, embracing it.
"Mhm. We have lots of Netflix binging to do."
The idea flashed through your mind that making Youngjae laugh might be your new favorite hobby. You hooked the leash to Kermit's collar and stood up, ready to go, but looking for an excuse not to. You didn't want to be done talking to Youngjae just yet.
"Will I see you around here again?" He asked, eyes bright even on the dreary day.
"I'm sure you will," You blushed.
"I'm looking forward to it."
