Cora's P.O.V
We had just defeated Smaug, and we were now celebrating. I was the only one who hadn't had any alcohol. Even Thorin was wasted and out of his mind, which meant I had to be careful around him.
"Cora, would you like to dance?" he asked, for the fifth time in just as many minutes.
"Will you leave me alone if I say yes?" I asked. He nodded. "Then I guess I will dance with you."
We began to dance, and a lot of people started to cheer. He just held me closer, and I was getting more self conscious by the minute.
He tried to kiss me, and that's when I moved away. His breath reeked of the alcohol, and I sure as hell wasn't letting him kiss me.
"What's wrong, love?" he asked, grabbing my hand to stop me from walking away.
"You're drunk. You're not thinking straight. If you were sober, you wouldn't be doing this." I told him
"Come on, Cora." he replied.
I broke his grip on my hand, but before I could leave, he got his arm around my waist.
"What? Don't you want to dance?" he asked.
"I'm tired. I want to leave." I said quickly.
He pulled me closer and attempted to kiss me again, and I snapped.
"Thorin, let go of me!" I exclaimed desperately.
Everyone stopped to watch us.
"I'm the king. You can't tell me what to do." he said.
"Yeah, you're the king, but you're drunk. Please just let go of me!" I begged.
"You want to leave? Then go! Don't come back!" he yelled.
"Fine, I won't be back." I snapped.
He spun around, and the unexpected happened.
He backhanded me across the face, the royal ring cutting into my cheek.
I left, and went to my house in the City of Dale.
Thank god I bought this place earlier. I thought.
I went to the bedroom, and collapsed on the bed.
The next morning, I went to the forest to find a river. I was avoiding people.
Thorin's P.O.V
The next morning, I had no memory of the night before. I asked everyone what happened, but they didn't know because they had been drunk too. Everyone except for Cora, that is.
I went to her house in the town, and knocked on the door. There was no answer, so I asked around town.
One of the merchants told me that she had left for the forest before dawn.
Knowing her, she would be looking for a river, so that's where I went.
When I got there, she wasn't there yet, so I leaned against the side of the cliff to wait.
She walked into the clearing a few minutes later.
"Good morning, Cora." I said.
"G-good morning... Thorin." she replied softly.
"I have a slight problem. I can't remember anything about last night, and neither does anyone else. Do you remember what happened during the party? Wait, Cora, what happened to your cheek?" I asked, brushing her hair out of her face.
"That's part of what happened last night. You were pretty drunk, and you kept asking me to dance, and I finally said yes. Then you tried to kiss me, and I pulled away, turning to leave. You grabbed my hand, stopping me from leaving. You asked me what was wrong, and I said I was tired and wanted to leave. You pulled me closer, and tried to kiss me again. I told you to let me go, but you wouldn't because you said that since you're the king, I couldn't order you around. I pointed out that you were drunk, and you yelled at me, telling me to leave. I assured you I would, and after that, well, I got hit." she explained
"Hit? Hit by who?"
She hesitated before responding.
"Thorin, you backhanded me." she whispered, almost inaudibly.
"I WHAT?!"
"Y-you hit me, and your ring cut my cheek open. I-it was bleeding pretty bad last night." she stuttered.
I slipped my arms around her waist, and pulled her into a hug.
"I'm so sorry Cora. I evidentally wasn't thinking straight."
"It's ok Thorin. Was there something you needed?"
"Would you like to be the royal advisor?"
She suddenly backed up.
"I don't think I would make a good advisor. What about Balin?" she asked, turning red.
"Balin suggested you. Please? You'll get to live in the royal quarters."
"Thorin, you offered for me to live there before. I still choose the town."
"Will you at least consider the idea?"
"Ok, I'll consider it."
"Thank you." I replied, kissing her forehead.
"What did I say about the mushy stuff?"
"Sorry Cora." I laughed, looking at her indignant face.
