Chapter 21
Sherlock ran to the end of hall then put his ear up to the door, listening for anyone else that might've been inside. He heard the scream again. It sure was Toni, but it didn't sound like it was coming from her... It was too quiet. Sure it was loud as hell, but not loud enough to be coming from a girl like Toni. Could it be a recording? Most likely.
Sherlock stepped back from the door. They wanted him to come to this room, but why? To kill him? To get him farther away from Toni? He walked away from the door and down the hall, putting his ear up to the other doors. He put his hand on the doorknob, they would've kept checking on Toni so they would've been going in and out if the door, which would result in a moderately warm doorknob. He checked all of them, but it was tricky. Finally he got back to the very first door at the beginning of the hall. Not only was the doorknob warm, but the lock was turned slightly to the left. That showed him that whoever locked the door was in a hurry and didn't have time to check if it was all the way locked. Sherlock put his ear up to the door, but he didn't hear anything. He took a step back, took a deep breath, then kicked down the door.
He was not prepared for what was behind the door. Sherlock froze when he saw Toni, tied to a chair, and looked close to death. She was hanging her head, then slowly looked up when she heard someone come in. When she lifted her head she revealed fresh scars over her face and neck that were still bleeding a little. She couldn't open her left eye, blood dripped from her nose, possible broken arm, legs, knife wounds all around her chest and... Well basically everywhere. Her beautiful black hair was tangled and stuck out in weird ways, making it obvious that she had been thrashing around,
"Sherlock..." She choked out in barley a whisper.
"Shh. Don't talk." Sherlock rushed to her and loosened the chains, setting her free. She lolled her head back attached out her arms, but then winced in pain. She looked at Sherlock, he face saying,
'I knew you would find me.'
Then Sherlock did something he never did before. Not to anyone.
He picked Toni up and held her in his arms,
"Everything's going to be okay." He told her soothingly,
"I promise." He brushed he long hair out of her face. He knew he was lying, in fact he wasn't sure if they would get her out alive. Toni was already half dead, but he wanted to make her feel safe. He wouldn't let her die, he wouldn't let anyone fucking touch her again.
He scooped her up in his arms and walked out of the room, rushing to get outside. But then something stopped him. He heard people outside, possible back up. Moran knew he was here. Of course he did, he had cameras everywhere. He gently set Toni down so she was sitting up against the wall. He needed to get her to a hospital, and fast. He got his gun out of his coat and peaked outside. There were at least ten guys, all armed with a handgun. He crouched down in front of Toni and sighed, just trying to think about what he should do.
Toni stared at him. She knew Sherlock was starting to think really hard, which usually resulted in him getting really frustrated. She slowly rose a weak arm to reach his hand, tangling their fingers together. He needed to know it was okay, that she didn't mind if he left her here. She was useless anyway.
"No." Sherlock shook his head, as if reading her thoughts,
"Don't think like that. I'm not leaving you here." He was not going to let her down. He was making up for all the times he let John down, he just couldn't do it anymore. Toni was one of the couple people he actually cared about, and he wasn't going to lose her. Not today.
Toni slowly wiped away a small tear off of Sherlock's cheek that he hadn't realized fell. He caught her hand and just stared at her. He could barely take it, seeing her like this.
The sound of stomping feet was what brought Sherlock back to attention. He quickly stood up and aimed his gun in the direction of the noise,
"Ah, Mr. Holmes! I thought I heard you." Moran smirked when he came into view with two men with guns behind him. Sherlock glared at him, still aiming his gun,
"I found Toni, Sebastian, now we talk about John. That was the agreement."
Moran smirked,
"Then why don't you put down your gun and then we can talk?"
"Only of you tell your men to stand down."
Sebastian and Sherlock stared down each other for a moment, then Moran let out an exaggerated sigh,
"Alright, fine. Seems fair." He told the men to stand down and they lowered their guns, and Sherlock slowly put his back into his pocket,
"Now... Let's talk..." He never left eye contact with Moran.
"If John has been taking those pills I gave him he should have about.... Well, a week. At least." Sherlock's eyes widened with rage
"Don't. You. DARE. Hurt. Him." He growled every word through clenched teeth. Moran just laughed,
"Oh please, even you know I don't need to do anything. He's going to kill himself sooner or later." He took a step towards Sherlock,
"And it's all your fault."
Sherlock shook his head,
"I found Toni, now let me see John."
Sebastian stared at Sherlock for a moment, then he grew a mischievous smirk,
"Oh dear... Is that what I said? Find Toni and then we'll talk? Well, I meant you need to get her out alive before you can even think about seeing John again."
Of course, Sherlock knew he would say that. Finding Toni was far too easy.
"Of course I'll give you a ten-second head start, I love to see my prey run." God that man was creepy.
Sherlock looked at Toni who was having trouble keeping her eyes open. She stared at him, her face saying, 'I'm ready when you are.' She tried to crack her trademark smirk that said 'I'm a wild child. Touch me and I'll rip your head off while watching Doctor Who'.
Sherlock stared back and smirked, "I always liked that about you." Then in one swift movement he scooped her up and bolted for the door.
--------------------------------------
Everything was a blur.
Sherlock heard Sebastian counting down and as soon he yelled, "ONE!" All hell broke lose.
Guns fired at Sherlock who did his best to dodge them. Men with knives tried to get at him, but he was too fast.
Sherlock had one goal: get to the van.
There was a black windowless van be saw parked about two blocks away, he noticed it in the cab ride. It was obviously Moran's, he probably put Toni in the trunk.
A bullet pierced Sherlock's shoulder and he yelled out in pain, almost dropping the girl. He didn't know how much longer he could last. Toni was making it difficult to run and the guns weren't making it any easier.
He could see the van, it wasn't that far away, but his legs and arms were burning.
He thought he could make it, he thought they would get out alive, he thought everything was going to be okay.
He was so very wrong.
A bullet got the back of Sherlock's knee, causing him to stumble to the ground. Toni fell out of his arms and rolled on the concrete, he was running pretty fast.
Everything hurt, everything was burning, it was almost too much. Toni slowly rolled over and looked at Sherlock who was about five feet behind her. She could barely hear, her ears were ringing and her vision was going blurry.
"DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES! DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES!" Sherlock kept screaming, stumbling to get back on his feet.
"Sherlock..." Toni whispered.
"DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES!" Two men tackled Sherlock to the ground and his face was first to meet the pavement.
"... I... Won't..." Toni tried. She tried as hard as she could not to close her eyes, but it hurt... So much. The pain... It was unbearable...
Her eyes fell shut, hearing the last of Sherlock's screams.
"TONIA!!!"
