For the first time in a very long time, Dustyn imagined that Holok's spirit stream was like a fountain drink machine when the fizzy stuff ran out. There had been very few golden strands left leading from Earth to Holok's golden cloud when they shut Heaven's Gates. However, he was not going to fool himself, within a day or two, the bulbous golden cloud's soul machine would begin humming right along like it had been before. But for now at least, Heaven's ragtag army had just won the first of what he was hoping was going to be many, many more battles to come.
"What's your name little one?" Gabriel asked.
"Eve."
The room grew silent.
"Where's my daddy?" she asked.
Unlike the other Original Souls that had entered Heaven, Eve had apparently retained her most recent Earthly appearance, a relief for Dustyn and his group. More so for Carter, because he had drawn the short straw on explaining to the girl why she looked like some adult man.
"Whew, that was a close one. The next one's Danny's," he said, relieved.
"Whatever," replied the truck driver.
"No, that's the damn rule, now!" Carter retorted. "I drew the shortest straw and that's the last one, so, from now on, we're using the 'you're it' principal."
"What's that mean?" Dustyn asked.
"I just tagged Danny for the next one. Then Danny will pick the next one of you two..." Carter pointed to Angel and Dustyn. "...and so on. Then it will come back around to me."
"Fine," Angel said.
"Yeah, alright," Replied Danny.
"Works for me," Dustyn agreed.
Carter smiled, "Then it's settled."
Danny glanced over at the sad little wide-eyed girl. She looked so scared and lonely. He couldn't imagine his daughter in this situation without him, however, his daughter, Jill, was at home all alone without him down there on Earth. He regretted he wasn't around as much as he should have been spending time with her before he was killed by Dustyn the nimrod. Well, truth be told, he knew it wasn't all Dustyn's fault. The trucker just had to make that one last run, so tired after only recently returning from a six state haul. Still, they asked and he said yes. He could always use the extra cash, whatever good that worthless paper was doing him now. "Why didn't I just tell the bosses 'no'?" he wondered. The more he ran through the accident in his head, the more he wondered if he didn't doze off for a second or two and swerve into the other lane. He thought it might be a good idea to talk to Dustyn and Angel about their recollections of the accident and compare notes. Especially for poor Dustyn who had really been experiencing a time attempting to deal with the realization of what he had done to them all on his own
The one thing Danny did reassure himself with, however, was that one day he was going to see Jill again in Heaven. They just had to defeat this assnugget Holok in some way first and this was now his one and only goal. He had to do this for his little girl. Nevertheless, there was one little angel that he could help right here and now and she was sitting all alone on a bench in a very strange and scary place. "Hello, honey," Danny said kneeling next to Eve. He looked up at Gabriel to make sure it was okay with him to talk to her.
"Go ahead Danny, she could use some human company." Gabriel bowed and walked away to speak to Michael.
"Eve? That's such a pretty name," Danny said. "I have a little girl about your age. Her name is Jill."
"So, you are a daddy?"
"Yes I am."
"Do you know where my daddy is?"
