Chapter 13
*July*
"So what's a pretty lady like you doing here alone?" a familiar voice asked while I was in the bar of the hotel I was staying in for two weeks. Since my sister's wedding was in two months, my family kept showing up at my apartment to see if I was coming, even though I kept telling them I wasn't. I needed a break from them, so I just went to a random hotel to stay there.
I turned my head, rolling my eyes at who I saw. Sergio. He was a man two years older than me who was also staying at the hotel as a break. We didn't tell each other why we needed the break, but we still both needed one.
Sergio and I have been flirting harmlessly, and I was mainly doing to get my mind off of Tony. I was fine with flirting and maybe the occasional hook-up. I just couldn't do anything with the person I was feeling so much for. As long as no feelings were attached, there was no reason why I couldn't have any fun.
"Well, I would tell you, but I don't talk to strangers," I told him.
"Please, you and I both know that I'm no stranger," he said with a wink before ordering his own drink. "So, enjoying the vacation?"
"Well, I basically do everything I do at home," I said. "Go on my laptop, read, watch TV. The only difference is this bar and a swimming pool being in the same building."
"Oh, so you're probably looking for some adventure," he said. "Say, I leave in two days. How about we head back to my hotel room and do something we're both probably looking for on the vacation."
I picked up the glass in front of me and drank the rest of it before placing it back on the table. "Let's go," I said.
Sergio smiled and drank the rest of his before helping me off the stool and leading me to his hotel room. He used the card key and unlocked it. He walked in and I follwed him. As soon as he closed the door, our lips were on each other's. His hands were cupping my face and mine went around his waist.
There was no spark between the kiss, nothing like when it was Tony, but it didn't matter. I needed to get my mind off of Tony and I knew Sergio had to get his mind off of whatever he had to get away from.
My hands were gripping the bottom of his shirt and I pulled it over his head, dropping it on the ground before pulling his lips back to me. I wrapped my arms around his shoulder. Sergio lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist, our lips never leaving each other's as he led me to the bedroom.
He lowered me onto the bed, taking my shirt off before moving his lips to my neck.
This whole time, I thought Tony would have left my mind, but he didn't. Instead, I was comparing Sergio to Tony. Sergio didn't leave sparks on my neck every time he kissed it like Tony did. Tony gave me the occasional smile while it was happening between us. Sergio didn't.
I couldn't go through with this.
"Sergio, wait," I said and he pulled away, giving me a confused look. "I....I can't."
He got off of me and sat down beside me, so I sat up. "Can I ask why?" he asked.
I sighed. "There's just....there's someone back where I live and...."
"You have a boyfriend?" he asked.
"No," I said. "We're not dating. I still can't go through with it though. Sorry."
"It's fine," he said. "I was just trying to get my mind off my ex-wife anyway."
It was my turn to give him a confused look. "Your ex-wife? What happened?"
"We were married for a month," he said. "Then, she had an affair. She was cheating on me with my brother. You....you wouldn't understand."
"Actually, I kind of do," I said. "My boyfriend, well, ex-boyfriend was cheating on me with my sister and they're now getting married in two months."
"Is that the someone back home?" he asked.
I shook my head. "No, I'm completely over him. It's someone else and....and I think I'm in love with him and I know he has feelings for me, but....My whole family knew about my sister and my ex-boyfriend and after I found out, they all told me to get over it. They still do. And because of that, I don't think I can get into another relationship. Not when I was stabbed in the back so many times, and not when I love that man so much."
"That's understandable," he said. "After my wife and I got divorced, she went to my brother and my parents were actually telling me to get over it. What was the point of dating me and marrying me if she was just going to go to my brother?"
"Tell me about it," I said.
"That's not even the worst part," Sergio said. "My best friend, she....she stopped talking to me when I got engaged. She was telling me that the woman I was going to marry was just going to end up hurting me. And when I didn't listen, she stopped talking to me. She didn't even come to my wedding."
"Ouch."
"Yeah, I know," he said. "I tried calling and texting, but she doesn't answer. And the thing is, if I knew she wasn't going to talk to me, I wouldn't have proposed to my ex-wife. I wouldn't have married her if it meant losing my best friend because she means the world to me. She's my everything and...."
"It sounds to me that you married the wrong woman," I said.
"What?" Sergio asked.
"You said your best friend is you're everything," I said. "Normally, best friends don't refer to each other as their everything. Seems to me like you married the woman you were never in love with."
Sergio stared at me for a bit before sighing and rubbing his forehead. "How come I didn't notice that before?" he asked.
"Because men are idiots," I said.
"Hey, don't stereotype us," he said. "Charlie, what should I do? She won't even talk to me and if I tell her that I'm in love with her...."
"I don't know the full story, but from what you told me, she feels the same way," I said. "Or she at least has some feelings for you. Friends usually will accept who you want to marry, even if they don't agree with it. But if someone you're in love with is going to marry someone, then they probably won't accept it. Well, some might. Others won't."
"You think she feels the same way?" Sergio asked.
"I think you should try winning her over," I said. "Right now, before summer vacation is over."
"But I told you, she won't talk to me," Sergio said.
"Then make her talk to you," I said. "Go to her house and don't leave until she has no choice but to talk to you, especially if she has to go out somewhere. I don't know, do something."
"You're right," he said before kissing my cheek. "Thank you, Charlie. You're the best."

Lol, I hope you're not mad that Charlie almost slept with someone. cx
I feel bad for my little sister. She loves Pikachu a lot and while my brother and I went Pokemon hunting today, we actually encountered a Pikachu (it took a while to track without the three-step feature). I caught it on mine, then went on my sister's account to catch it for her. It jumped out of the pokeball a few times before running away, so she didn't even get it. Now she's sad.
Anyway, I'll try writing the next chapter as soon as this is up.
