Chapter 11
*April*
All the staff was at a meeting after school, discussing a few things. The last thing we were talking about was the school dance. Martha wanted two of us to plan and chaperone the upcoming spring dance.
"So, any volunteers?" she asked.
"Why isn't the student council doing it?" Tony asked.
"Because of the last dance," Martha said. "They went over their fund limit, not too mention the music chosen was way to crude for a school dance. For the rest of the school year, it will be the staff planning it. So, any volunteers?"
"There usually is a food table, right?" Tony asked.
Martha sighed. "Yes, Tony."
"Ooh, I'm in," Tony said.
"Of course you are," Martha said with an eye roll. "Who else wants to do it?"
Nobody else volunteered, so Martha said she would pick someone. Please not me, please not me, I chanted in my head. I still wasn't able to push Tony away, so I'd rather not spend even more time with him.
"Charlie, how about you?" Martha asked. "After all, you two are the youngest staff members here, so you'll probably still be in touch with your teen side."
I silently sighed. "Sure, I can help."
"Great," she said. "Well, that's everything for this meeting."
When everyone stood up to leave the staff room, Tony walked over to me. "So, do you want to come over to my apartment tonight to start planning the dance?" he asked.
No.
I didn't.
"Yeah, sure," I said. "What time?"
"Does seven sound good?" he asked.
"Okay," I said. "Seven it is. I'll see you then."
I left the school and went to my car before driving back to the apartment building. I really hated that I wasn't able to aruge with Tony or push him away. It was getting way to hard to do so, and I hated it. I felt a lot more for him than I did for Ian or any other person. But I didn't want to get hurt again. I didn't want to get stabbed in the back again, especially from someone I felt so stongly for.
When I got home, I started marking a few quizzes that my classes did today. I was able to complete two of the classes before it was about seven. Then I got up from the table and left my apartment before heading to Tony's apartment.
I knocked on the door and he opened it, giving me a small smile. He opened the door wider for me to come in, then closed the door behind me. "Just so you know, I've never been to a high school dance," I told him as I sat down at the table. "So I have no idea how to plan one."
"It's okay," he said. "I've been to probably every single dance. Mostly for the food, though."
"You know, I'm getting a feeling that you love food," I said with an eye roll.
"Obviously," he said, sitting beside me on the table, which only made my heart start to beat faster. Why couldn't he sit on the other side of the table? He just had to sit beside me. Sure, it would be easier with him sitting beside me, but still.
