Madison's POV
"Look, I don't know where you're planning on taking me next- and as much as I'd love to stay out here with you," I spoke, my words drenched in sarcasm, "I have to get back to school."
I noticed him take a glance at his clock on the dashboard beneath the steering wheel. I had way more than enough of his shitty attitude towards me; and right now, I wanted nothing more to do with him.
"What's the rush with getting back to school?" He shrugged, carelessly.
"Well, unlike you I actually want to do something with my life." I spat.
I got a glimpse of his knuckles turning white from his tight grip around the steering wheel, as he turned his attention back onto the road. I slouched down in my chair, realising I was being way too harsh. "Sorry" I mumbled under my breath, just loud enough for him to hear.
"Whatever." He replied monotonously
"I've got a detention." I spoke up. I watched him as he raised his eyebrows in disbelief, letting a scoff escape from his lips.
"Madison May, the goody goody Madison May has a detention?!" He laughed.
"Excuse me!?" I huffed in offence, "FYI I am not a goody goody."
"Prove it"
"And how do you expect me to do that?" I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Skip school with me." He smirked. I could tell that he already knew that I wasn't the kind of person to do that.
"I can't. My parents would kill me." I sighed hoping he'd understand and not tease me about this for the rest of my life.
"I knew it" He chuckled.
"Yeah, well my parents aren't like normal parents." I huffed, looking out of the car window; taking note of the rain drumming against the paved roads, the timed swish of the windscreen wipers.
"Who said they'd find out?" I sighed in defeat. I knew Austin long enough to know that I'd never win a fight with him- not because he was always right- purely because he was too stubborn to admit he was wrong.
"Fine. I'll go."
I looked at the house -well, more of a warehouse- that Austin had took me to. "Uh, where are we?" I questioned. I made sure not to slam his car door this time; to avoid any unnecessary arguments.
"Good girl" He said in a patronising tone.
"You didn't answer my question."
"I know." He responded and walked ahead of me, leaving me hot on his trail, following behind.
Austin's POV
"What are you doing home so early, Mahone?" Leo questioned, after taking a glance at his watch. He eyed Madison suspiciously.
"School got boring, the usual." He shook his head disapprovingly at me.
"Chill out man, you're not my dad" I sniggered.
"Oh hey pretty thing" Finn appeared out of nowhere, checking Madison out.
I tried not to laugh at her terrified expression. It didn't take a genius to know that she was nervous about skipping school- but hey, maybe if she sticks around, she'll get used to it.
"Leave it out Finn" I rolled my eyes at him. "You can sit down if you want." I told Madison.
"Thanks" She said quietely. The boys threw me questioning looks, which I disregarded. As usual, Leo chucked me an ice cold beer and I slumped onto the couch. I lit up a cigarette, flicking the ashes into the ash tray every so often.
"So are you all like- brothers?" Madison questioned. I shot the guys a warning look, which they understood. So far Madison has stayed completely innocent since being around us, and she doesn't need to know what we do.
"What? She doesn't know?" Finn stupidly questioned.
"Yeah, yeah we're uh- we're brothers." I covered up. I really could do without having her on my case about everything I do and hearing why it isn't good for me, I have enough people like that in my life. I've never planned to include her into my criminal life, and it will stay that way wether she likes it or not.
"What do you mean 'She doesn't know'?" Madison questioned warily, referring back to Finn's comment.
"It's nothing" Leo shrugged, turning the channel on the tv, avoiding eye contact.
"Oh come on, I know what things you do" Madison turned to all of us, studying us all.
Something I've learnt about Madison is that she can't keep her damn mouth closed; when she wants something, she won't stop until she gets it. I could tell by the look on her face that she thought she was being clever. She had no idea how much shit she was getting herself into with my boys. They're not merciful. As if things could get any more frustrating, Slade appeared from the other room with narrowed eyes.
Madison's POV
I watched someone, a little older than Austin, appear from the doorway of the other room. He looked angry. He looked Austin in the eyes daringly, and I watched Austins jaw clench. I've said something I shouldn't have. Something must've gotten them like this.
Wow, way to start off on a good note, Madison.
He turned to look at me, "And what is it you think we do?" He crossed his arms against his built chest and awaited a response.
"You uh- you hurt people, right?" I stuttered, not wanting to say the wrong thing. He chuckled dryly, shaking his head.
"Try, killing people." He shot back. I froze in my seat in shock. There's no way Austin is like that. Who am I kidding? I barely know him.
"You son of a bitch" Austin growled and launched forward to whoever he was. Austin slammed him into the wall, with his hands around his neck, "You don't know what the fuck you just got yourself into, Slade." He snarled. Slade? That's his name?
I watched as Slade turned them both around and threw a punch at Austin.. "Come on, let's go" One of the boys I had previously spoken to said with no emotion.
I didn't know where he intended to go, and in all honestly, I was too shocked to ask. I followed him into a very boyish bedroom. "You can sit if you want" He shrugged.
I walked over to the bed and took a seat at the end of it. He started to walk back out of the room, with not another word said to me.
"So what's your name?" I asked him quickly, making him stop.
"Leo" He smiled. "And yours?"
"Madison May" I smiled back. It stayed quiet again, and I looked down to my feet. "It's nothing to worry about." He reassured, taking a seat next to me. "They're always like this. It's nothing new." He chuckled.
I nodded "You don't think I'm used to Austin's outbursts by now?" I laughed.
He left me there to -I guess- go and break the fight up. I picked the nail varnish from my nails, trying hard not to focus on what just happened.
Iheard heavy footsteps up the stairs, and looked up to see Austin walking through the door. He had a bloody nose, with knuckles to match. I sprung to my feet and walked over to him.
"What the hell happened?!" I exclaimed.
"You saw what happened" He sneered, "I never should have brought you here"
I took a deep breath and reminded myself that I'm standing infront of a criminal. "Well, okay." I sighed softly. "Let's just get you fixed up." I held his hand loosely and he trailed behind me into his en-suite bathroom.
