Chapter 5

Emily's PoV

I walked into the history room and walked up to the teacher, gave him my slip. He signed it and asked me to introduce myself to the class.

"Hi, my name is Emily Swan," I said awkwardly.

"Well miss Swan, I would like you to sit next to Jasper Hale," he instructed me.

Jasper, wasn't that one of Alice's adoptive brothers. 

The one I really wanted to meet.

But the only people I have been able to socialise with today was Bella and Alice. 

Two people. 

Great well done Emily!

I didn't move, Mr whatever must have realised as he quickly said, "Mr Hale can you please put you hand up so Miss Swan knows where to sit, thank you."

I turn back to the class to see a boy, sat at the back of the room with his hand up. He was absolutely gorgeous. He had beautiful blonde hair with mysterious golden eyes, which were similar to Alice's. 
An amazingly sculptured face, along with a good sense of fashion. He was inhumanly perfect and I felt drawn to him for some weird reason.

Maybe Alice was right, maybe I could meet the one today. 

So far nobody had caught my eye, nobody but him.

I look at him and he stares back at me. I quickly break the eye contact and move to sit next to him. Once I sit down he goes stiff and looks like he's in pain. I'm a bit concerned but I push it away as he introduces himself.

"Hi I'm Jasper Hale, you must be Emily Swan," he says awkwardly letting a southern accent slip through.

An accent. Interesting, seems like he is trying to cover it up. 

Why? It is amazing. 

Maybe it's because he feels it makes him different to others.

I sigh, "Yeah, that's me," I say trying to ease a tension that's built over the last couple of minutes. 
A few minutes and an awkward silence later I chose to speak again, fed up of this unneeded tension that I seem to have caused.

"I'm not usually this awkward, jasper, I promise," I say looking up at him, "I usually leave the awkwardness to my sister Bella, she is worse than I am," I continue, getting very nervous and even more awkward. 

Suddenly I feel a wave of calmness spread its way through me, making me no longer feel nervous and awkward but calm.

"Emily, you don't need to apologise, I believe you darlin," he replies calmly.

I smile slightly. In hopes of trying to recover I ask "So what are we learning about at the moment in history?"

He smiles, looking very happy that I have a bit of an interest in history.
"We have just started learning about the civil war."

The civil war, interesting.

"The civil war? I actually like that topic, wish I knew more about it though," I say back to him, sighing giving a small smile.

He grins at me but has a bit of a confused expression on his face too.

"If your wondering why I like a topic I barely know anything about, I'm not sure either," I pause, "what I do know is that I have been drawn to the civil war topic for most of my life, however something was holding me back from wanting to learn about it, I know what your thinking that's probably really weird-"

"It's not weird," he say cutting me off, "I happen to love the civil war topic and would love to teach you about it," he pauses, "maybe the reason you didn't want to learn about it was because you hadn't met me yet," he says winking at me. I grin and giggle slightly. 

"Maybe that's what it is," I say smirking at him. He smiles and laughs slightly too.

That laugh was like heaven. It was so beautiful.

We continued to talk about ourselves the rest of the lesson. I spoke to jasper about why I moved to forks and he spoke to me about his family. We also talked about each other's interests. I found out that not only is he a history geek, he also loves to read and play baseball. He found out that I love art and baseball too. 
I told him how I met Alice and how she had invited me to sit with him and his family. He smiled when he found out and asked me to sit next to him. I agreed of course.

The bell rang and I said goodbye to jasper telling him I would see him at lunch. He insisted that he would meet me outside my maths class later to walk me to the cafeteria, which was nice of him.

The rest of the day went okay. In gym Bella almost knocked me out with a bloody ball. In biology I was reunited with jasper, we sat together and talked all lesson. Maths I sat next to Bella and we learned about algebra, which was really boring. Finally lunch came around.
