Chapter 4

Emily's PoV

We walk into the room and go up to the teacher. She signs our slips and places us in seats. Unfortunately we were placed into separate seats away from each other. Bella was put at the front next to some girl who looked really annoying while I was put next to a girl at the back. The girl looked pixie-like with dark brown hair. I recognised her as one of the bunch of people I saw earlier who seemed different.

I pushed the thought away and went to sit next to her. As I sat down she turned to me with a huge smile on her face before introducing herself. 

"Hi, I'm Alice Cullen, you must be Emily Swan," she said casually looking extremely happy to see me. I have to admit it felt nice that a stranger was happy to see me. 

I broke out into a grin before replying,"Yes that's me, it's nice to meet you."

"You know I have a feeling that you and I are going to be the best of friends," she said.

"You know I think your right, I don't usually make friends very well but you seem different and I like that," she grinned in response.

I looked around for something, anything and eventually picked up a paintbrush. I indicated Alice to pick hers up. 

"Right well I know you are supposed to have a drink when you do this but who cares," I paused, "Here's to the start of a beautiful friendship." She smiled as we clinked our paintbrushes, laughing.

A little while into the lesson we started talking to each other. 

"So why did you move to forks Emily?" Alice asked. 

"Um..well when I was younger my sister and I's parent's got divorced. We went to live with our mum and visited our dad often. Eventually we stopped visiting my dad and my mum remarried this guy called Phil. They loved each other and wanted to go travelling together, mainly because Phil is part of a baseball team. However my mum said she couldn't as she had to look after me and my sister. Me and Bella felt bad so we volunteered to go stay at our dads. It's been awhile since I last saw him. I miss home but I love it here since I prefer the rain. Sorry I'm rambling," I replied. 

Alice smiled at me, "it's fine Emily, it's nice to see that you are happy."

I broke out into a grin again but decided to change the subject. 

"So Alice, what about your family, who do you live with?" I asked.

She broke into a smile looking very happy that I asked. 

"Well I live with my adoptive parents, Carlisle and Esme, along with my adoptive siblings, Edward and Emmet Cullen, as well as Caleb Hale. There is also Rosalie and Jasper Hale who are twins. We all get along," she paused,"Now this may seem weird but Emmet and Rosalie are dating just like me and Caleb are dating," she replied cautiously. 

"That's a big family Alice and I'm not one to judge, you can't help who you fall in love with," I replied thinking about what it would be like to fall in love.

"Wait i never said we were in love," she said confused.

"You don't need to, I can see it in your eyes and by the way you say his name," I stated smiling, "Sometimes I wish I was able to experience what you have Alice," I say to her giving a small smile.

"Your extremely understanding Emily and I'm sure you will find love, you never know you could meet that person today," she replied back giggling as if she knew something I didn't.

"Thanks and maybe I will find love one day, I doubt it will be today though Alice."
"I think you'll be surprised Emily."

The bell rang. I slowly got my things together. 

"Hey Emily," i looked up to see Alice, "Would you like to sit with me and my family?"

I hesitated. She seemed to see this and said, "You don't have to worry, just remember, Emmett is very loud, Caleb and Edward are nice and friendly. Rosalie will most likely act like a bitch and jasper," I smiled at his name," well he is usually very quiet. So there is nothing to worry about," she said reassuring me. 

I thought about it and realised that it would be nice to sit with her and her family. I would at least get to meet the boy whose name makes my smile and feel this wired feeling.

"Sure I will sit with you and your family."

She smiled and walked off to her next class as I made my way towards the history room.
