"Hailey look at me." Carl orders. But I don't look at him, I just shut my eyes and clock the gun right where it should be.
"Hailey! Damnit! Don't shoot!"
Carls voice starts to fade and the only voices I hear are the ones inside my own fucking head...
·~A couple days earlier~·
|Carls P.o.v.|
I look back at Hailey as we walk through the woods. Her head is down and her eyes are focused on the dirt. I sigh and look ahead of me.
"She will be alright." Daryl says walking next to him. I look at him, "I don't know what to do."
"Give her space. She'll come 'round."
I look back infront of me and focus on the road ahead of me. I don't think space is what she needs. I don't want her to think I'm not here for her when I am. I turn around and walk to the back where Hailey is.
"Can we talk?" I ask calmly. She pokes her head up and looks at me. Her eyes are red, along with her cheeks.
My poor baby...
"What is there to talk about?" She asks coughing. "Everything." I say.
"I don't think there is anything to talk about, Carl." Her voice is still raspy and dry. "Here baby, drink some water." I say pulling out my water bottle and handing it to her.
"I don't want your damn water." She says waking it out of my hand. "And I don't want to talk to anyone."
I sigh in defeat and walk back up to my dad. It breaks my heart seeing her like this.
"Help! Someone help!"
We all stop and listen.
"Help me!"
I start running to where the screams are coming from, the group follows behind. I run to a big boulder with a man on top trying to kill some walkers. I take out my knife and stab the first one I could grab. My dad and Daryl get the rest.
"T-Thank you." The guy says climbing down. He looks at all of us before puking.
I know we look like shit...but do we look that bad.
He stands up straight and looks at us again.
"Do you guys have a camp?" He asks. "Depends. Do you have one?" My dad questions.
"I have a church. Just done the road from here. You guys are wel-"
"How do we know this isn't a trick to just kill us?" Dad asks. "I would never kill a human being." The man says. His voice is so soft, he sounds innocent, but I can see the guilt in his eyes.
My dad starts patting the man down, and he gladly obliges.
"How many walkers have you killed?"
"Maybe...one or two."
What? Has he ever gone outside? This man seems suspicious.
"How many people have you killed?" Dad asks.
"None."
I stare at the man, making him uncomfortable but I need to make sure we don't get tricked like last time, for Haileys sake. It seems like he's lying, but I'm not sure.
"Why?"
"The Lord doesn't provoke violence."
This makes sense now, he's a priest. I should have realized by his outfit. Before this all started we went to Church. Not too much, but enough for me to recognize a priest when I see one.
My dad looks back at all of us and they nod except for me. He looks at me waiting for an answer, I look at Hailey and see how much she needs somewhere to rest. She looks sick. I nod looking back at my dad.
"You said you have a Church?" Dad asks. The man smiles and nodes, "I'm Gabriel by the way, Father Gabriel. Follow me please."
We all start walking, but I wait until I'm in the back with Hailey. Even though this guy seems legitimate, I don't fully trust him.
"Carl, I said I don't want to talk." She says. I nod, "Then lets not talk."
"I want to be alone."
"Please Hailey."
She looks at me with hurt in her eyes. "Okay." She says before looking back at the road.
·~·~·
"Well, here it is." Gabriel says as a Church comes into viewing. He starts walking up the stars but my dad stops him.
"We want to check it first." Dad tells him. The man seems taken back by my dads forcefulness, but he nods anyway and lets us in.
"Carl stay out here will Judith, and watch Gabriel." Dad looks at Hailey then back at me. He sighs, "And keep an eye on her."
He seemed so serious...like she was going to try something harmful. I nod and he walks in the Church with the rest. I look back at Hailey, her head is down and her bangs fall right infront of her face to block it.
And now I'm starting to think, would she?

Hey, so that was the first chapter of The Love Of A Girl. Hope you enjoyed :-)This book will be slow updates. I started school Tuesday and I am loaded with work.
I have to write a 2 page report, due Monday. Read all of Chapter 1 in History and take notes, due Monday. Read the 32 page introduction to The Scarlet Letter and answer questions, due Monday also. And in Physics I have to read Chapter 1 and 2, which combined is 11 lessons total, and due the online work for it, due next Friday. I have a test next week, possibly another one. AND I have a test tomorrow. #LifeofaSophomore ✌
So yeah, it would be really appreciated if I don't get hounded for slow updates and all. So please keep it in consideration that my schooling comes first and I need good grades and all to get into the college I want.
Thank you all, survivors.
