Falling Into You

Chapter 9

I opened my eyes and looked at Alex, he was asleep beside me. I looked at the clock, 3:45 AM. I got out of bed and put on my robe. I looked at Alex once more just to make sure he was asleep. One I was sure I opened the door and walked out. I closed it as quietly as I could and then walked downstairs. I went into the living room and found the phone. I dialled Rene's phone number.
"Hello?"
"Hi, it's me"
"I thought so"
"So did you talk to Tony about the meeting?"
"Yeah he said he can be there tomorrow, so can the rest of the crew"
"Okay great thanks. Sorry about that, I panicked I didn't know what to say"
"It's okay, I don't mind. And to be honest we do need to set a release date"
"Well then I guess it all worked out"
"Yeah I guess so"
"So Céline? Why did you want to call me?"
"I just wanted to talk to you"
"About what?"
"Anything. I love talking with you"
"I love talking with you as well. But what about Alex? He doesn't want us anywhere near each other"
"I know. And now I'm engaged to him"
"Do you actually want to marry him?"
"I don't know"
"Céline you can tell me... You can trust me"
"I mean I do care about him. It's just... I feel like he doesn't care about me. I know he said he loved me and everything tonight, but I feel like it was just because he was proposing. I don't think he actually means it"
"I think he cares deep down he just doesn't show it"
"He doesn't show it, ever! That's the complete opposite of me, I wear my heart on my sleeve. And to be completely honest. I feel like the only reason he proposed was because of you"
"Because of me?"
"He's always so worried when we are together. I just feel like he proposed to prove to you that we are a couple"
"I know you are a couple, you don't need to have a ring to make that obvious"
"I know that, but Alex doesn't get it"
"Well, I kind of understand why. I mean when we've been together lately, we haven't exactly just talked. But you're happy with him, so I'm not going to intrude. I'm perfectly fine with being your friend and manager"
"But you're so much more than just a friend, especially now... Are you busy tomorrow after the meeting?"
"Not that I know of"
"Well if you want, you can come over, I'll cook us some dinner, and we can talk... As friends"
"Yes that sounds great. As friends only"
"Yes, just friends, no business talk, nothing"
"Got it, sounds great"
"Alex will most likely drop me off at the studio tomorrow, so I'll see you then"
"I can drive us back to your place if you want"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes of course"
"Greta thanks. I'll see you tomorrow"
"Bye Céline" I hung up the phone. I sat on the couch for a bit before getting up. I walked upstairs into my bedroom. Alex was still sleeping, I took off my robe and got back in bed. Alex rolled over and looked at me.
"Where were you?" He said
"I couldn't sleep so I went downstairs for a little bit"
"That's what I thought. I woke up and you weren't in bed"
"I didn't want to wake you"
"I'm just happy your back" he said as he wrapped his arms around me. I smiled at him "Goodnight Alex"
"Goodnight" he said and kissed my cheek.
I closed my eyes and started to fall asleep, all I could think about was Rene. I don't know why I'm so excited to see him, we agreed to have dinner as just friends. Nothing more. But I just can't wait to see him...
