Falling Into You

Chapter 16

I wake up with a little headache, nothing major but it's enough to remind me of last night. I had lots of fun with Rene, but almost every time we're together there's alcohol. I get out of bed and see a note on the dresser.
"Meet us in Tony's room.
-Alex"
I change out of my pyjamas and put on jeans and a t-shirt. I fix my hair, and put on a little bit of makeup. I brush my teeth, and walk out of the hotel room. I go to Tony's room and knock on the door. Tony opens the door, "She's here!" He yells to everyone in the room "Come on in"
"What's going on?" I ask
"We were waiting for you to come here, we're excited for the show tonight"
"I am too" I laugh
"We want to do the sound check a little bit earlier"
"How come?"
"Well since it's the first show we want to make sure everything goes okay. And just incase anything goes wrong we want to have time to fix it"
"Oh... Okay"
"Are you alright with that?"
"Yes of course"
"Then what's wrong?"
"I just got a bit of a headache"
"You do? How come?"
"Uh... Not sure, just from traveling I guess" I look at Rene, he smiles, trying not to laugh.
"Oh well we can get you something to help with that. But you're alright to do sound check early right?"
"Yeah no problem"
"Great!"
* At sound check *
"What song do you want me to start with?"
"How about Because You Loved Me?" Rene suggests
I nod and start to sing:
"For all those times you stood by me, for all the truth that you made me see. For all the joy you brought to my life, for all the wrong that you made right..."
I finish the song and turn to everyone.
"Well how was that?"
"Fantastic... As usual" Tony says
"Thank you. What song now?"
"Up to you"
"Can I do To Love You More?"
"Of course"
I sing the song and everybody says it sounded great. I sing through the rest of the setlist. When sound check is over Alex comes over to me.
"You sounded great" he kisses my cheek
"Thank you"
"Well, are you ready for tonight's show?"
"I can't wait"
"That's good"
My stylist comes out as I'm talking to Alex.
"Céline? Would you like to do a fitting right now, before the show?"
"Sure. But didn't we already try on everything?"
"Yes but we want to make sure there's no holes or loose threads. And it's better to find that kind of stuff now rather than right before you go on stage"
"Right. Good idea" I turn to Alex "I'll see you later okay?"
"Actually that's what I came to talk to you about. Tony asked me to go get drinks with him before the show"
"But I thought we were going to spend the day together before the show"
"We can do it another day"
"But Alex..."
"Look we have the whole tour to spend time together. There's lots of time"
"You were with Tony all day and all night yesterday, why do you need to see him again today?"
"Well I need someone to do stuff with"
"What about me?" I feel myself starting to get upset and I know I'm about to cry.
"I mean I need another guy to do stuff with, don't get me wrong I love spending time with you. But I just need another guy to do stuff with"
"What do you guys even do together?"
"Well we go to bars, and we watch some sports games at the bars, we played pool yesterday"
"I would that kind of stuff with you"
"It's not the same Céline"
"Look, you asked me to marry you, I just assumed that meant you cared enough about me to actually want to spend time with me"
"I do want to spend time with you but not right now"
"If you barely want to see me while we're on tour, how do you expect to spend the rest of your life with me?"
"You're overreacting"
"Alex, I have barely talked to you in three days! I miss you!"
"I know you do, but right now I'm going out with Tony and you have a fitting anyway"
I know I'm getting really upset, I need to leave.
"Fine have fun with Tony"
"I will"
"Will you be at my show tonight?"
"I think so"
"You think so?"
"If I'm back in time"
"Are you even going to try and come to my show?"
"I'll see what I can do"
I feel a tear in my eyes and I know I need to leave.
"Fine, uh have fun with Tony. I'll see you later"
I walk away from him and go to find my stylist.
I walk into the dressing room, my stylist sees me and comes over. "Are you okay Céline?"
"No" I start crying
"Is there someone you want me to call in?"
"No it's okay, let's just do the fitting" he nods and shows me the dresses.

After the fitting I leave the dressing room and go up to my hotel room.
I'm almost to my room when Rene walks out.
"Céline are you okay?"
"No" I start to cry, he hugs me.
"Do you want to talk?" I nod yes, we go into his room. I tell him everything I've been through with Alex, and that I feel like he doesn't actually love me. Somehow just talking about it makes me feel better.
"I'm so sorry for you Céline. But I believe he loves you, he just doesn't show it that well"
"I guess you're right" he hugs me again, and we walk out of his room.
"What time is it?" I ask him
"Uh, 6:00" he says checking his watch.
"Wow the show starts soon, only another hour"
"I know first show of the tour, are you excited"
"I'm beyond excited, I can't wait"

It's almost showtime, we are backstage right now. I'm about to go on. My backup singers head onto the stage and then it's just me and Rene.
"I'm about to go on. I'm so excited!"
"I know you are" he laughs
"1 minute until you go Céline" one of the tour managers says to me.
I peek behind the curtain to see if Alex is here.
"Do you see him?"
"No" I say
"Don't be sad, don't let him ruin your first show. Enjoy this"
"You're right. Thanks"
I hug him tightly. I look up at him and smile, I let go and go to the stairs. I'm about to go on stage when Rene takes my hand.
"Good luck tonight, you'll do great"
"Thanks for everything Rene, you're staying to watch the show right?"
"I wouldn't miss it, I'll be right back here watching"
"Good, I want you to be here" I smile at him, then he leans in and kisses me...
