Ruby's POV

     As expected, I made about 7 wrong turns on my way home, and got back an hour after my curfew, which was pathetically 8 pm. My overprotective parents would have freaked out, but they were out at my mom's office party, so Grams was the only one home to bust me. She actually was surprisingly mad, and I was banished to the basement until morning.
It's not a big deal, I have to finish up the science project anyways.
I guess I was really desperate back at Liam's place to actually offer putting myself through all that torture again.
The memory is really vivid, probably because it happened 2 hours ago, but it's really unnerving. The more I think about it, the worse I feel. I can't believe I just bailed on Liam!! It makes me seem like a wimp in front of the guy I might potentially like.
Honestly, I am not usually like that. I don't know what came over me, but I regret it all.
Which makes it all the more important for me to ace this project as an apology.

2 hours, later
The textbook is laid out on my "bed", and I'm seeing all the words, but I'm not reading them. Even when I read out loud, I'm still not processing a thing.
Basically everything I wrote down sounds like gibberish. And gibberish gets you the kind of grade that fails you.
I don't need an "F" right now when an important friendship is on the LINE!
I let out an exasperated sigh. I can't focus, I can't work, and this guilt is eating me up alive!
What if I left Liam to get a crazy punishment or something with his strange brother? I don't know him, or the rest of his family. Maybe Cole will tell his parents about us almost kissing, and Liam will be grounded all summer!!!
😱I just ruined his whole summer!!
Calm down
I've never hoped to be wrong so badly before this.
And I definitely can't finish the project in this state. I flopped down on my bed, and closed my eyes.
I'll just ask Vida for some pointers at lunch tomorrow.

Lunch, the next day

I'm sitting with my head down, while Vida is looking over the research Liam and I did. I have a hell of a headache, probably because I hardly got any sleep last night, courtesy of the bothersome rats.
"I have no idea what you are saying here boo" Vida says, pointing to some lines. "And all this shit over here is unnecessary". I think she's finally getting irritated, so I will myself to sit up and try to figure this out.
"Yeah, I wrote all this last night, and I wasn't really... Focused."
Vida cursed quite a bit then, and I got lectured on how she was going to fail because of me.
"Look, I'm sorry, really. But this isn't a lost cause. I've got more brains now then last night, so if you just help me write a little faster, this will be done by next period, okay?"
She seems to be debating with herself for a few minutes, and I'm here tapping my foot urgently. A failing grade seems less appealing now when everyone else is counting on me.
"Ok" Vida states. "Just get your head off the damn table".
I conceited and we started writing.
I actually did most of the work, mainly because Vida complained the whole time.
"You got the better half of the deal! You said it yourself! And you didn't even FINISH the damn project! While I spent a day at a stupid ice cream shop with Chubs, while he droned on and on and ON about all the chemical functions of the brain!" She was ranting, a lot, but I couldn't blame her. I was partnered with Liam. Sweet, smart, attractive Liam!
I could've gotten "chubs" apparently, who is as thin as a pencil,may I add, but I didn't.
And I still managed to mess everything up.
"I get it, I get it, but... It's done" I said in surprise, writing the last word on the page. "It's done!" I say louder, happier.
"Calm down boo, your not getting a medal for writing a few lines" Vida says, but with less spite.
Science class will be a piece of cake. Now all I have to do is face Liam

A/N - soooo, I think you mainly get to meet the "normal" Vida a little bit more here. She's always going to be one of my favorites, with her tough exterior but broken interior😭
