Adam's POV
It was her, after so long she had finally come back. Before I knew it I was running down the grand staircase of the pack house and out the doors. My head spun looking for Fern, my wolf was howling 'Mate, mate, mate' continuously. Once I found her I would hold her in my arms and never let go.
But she was no where in sight. I saw Lucas about 30 yards in front of me talking to what seemed to be two girls. I recognized that a girl with blonde hair that just reached her shoulders was Kaylyn. But the other girl... the other girl... I felt a connection to her. A connection that I was only supposed to have with one person in my whole life.
Mate my wolf whispered.
The unknown girl standing beside Kaylyn looked at me. The connection grew stronger. How could this be? My mate was Fern. For some reason anger brewed within me. This wasn't Fern but she was apparently my mate. I couldn't take it.
The girl shouted something which I didn't hear and then started running towards me. I started running towards her and all I could hear in my mind was a mixture of my wolf shouting mate and my own voice in my head shouting that it wasn't her.
The next thing that I remembered was that I had pinned the girl down. My hands were around her neck and she was screaming and squirming to get away from me. Tears were streaming down my face but I couldn't help it.
"WHERE IS SHE?! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HER" I shouted, she wasn't Fern, this wasn't my mate. But why did I have this connection towards this stranger that was only supposed to be felt between me and Fern?
Lucas and Kaylyn had to pull me off the girl in the end. Even then I was trying my hardest to leap back onto the girl. I was shouting "WHO ARE YOU?" but I knew I would not succeed in getting any answers.
In my head I could hear everyone in mindlink asking questions, "Beta, what's going on? Are you okay? Why are you screaming?" But I ignored them all.
The girl stumbled back and Kaylyn went to help her.
"Adam calm down! You could have killed her!" Lucas shouted at me. Why was he taking the girl's side?
"Why are you protecting her?! She's an intruder!" I shouted back at him.
"I'm protecting her because I think she might be linked to Fern's Wolf." That stopped me in my tracks. That would explain why I felt a connection towards this girl.
"Mara are you in there?" It was worth a shot, I didn't even know if she would reply.
"Adam, it's me... I love you." The girl said to me. I was in shock. Somehow I knew that it was Mara who was speaking to me and not the girl.
"What happened to you?" I called back.
What Mara said next sent back into a flood of tears, I wasn't able to control myself.
"Maki... Maki happened... Adam, Fern's dead."

After the girl had ran away back into the woods, Lucas dragged me back inside. I let him, i couldn't speak.
"We need to have a pack meeting to inform everyone on everything, my mindlink is already blowing up with questions about what just happened." Lucas called people who were standing in the big hall.
I couldn't be here, people were going to be asking me questions and I wouldn't be able to answer them. I had just found out that my mate had died but somehow her wolf was now bonded with a complete stranger that I seemed to have a connection towards.
I yanked myself out of Lucas's grasp and headed for the door. I wanted to get away. Lucas called my name but I ignored him.
I felt the wind flying past my face as I ran towards the woods. I knew Lucas was running after me but I could easily ditch him in the forest. I could hear Lucas in my mindlink shouting at me.
"Don't you dare go after the girl. We need her" He called. I wasn't thinking of going after the girl. I just needed to run. I wish I was able to transform into my wolf. It would be so much easier. But of course I had to wait until I was fricken 18.
I ran for what seemed like hours. No where in particular, I just didn't want to go back to the pack house. I had cut my mindlink off from everyone else earlier because they were cramming my head with questions and asking where was I going.
I wasn't concentrating on where I was going and before I knew it I had run into someone. "Ah" I heard the person scream. It was a girl.
We fell to the ground and I looked up to find that it was Kaylyn I had run into.
"Watch where you're going Adam." She sighed at me but as I looked into her eyes I saw sympathy for me."Sorry." I mumbled and started to get up.
"Are you coming back to the pack house anytime soon?" She put her hands on her hips.
"I can't deal to be there right now. So many questions that I don't know the answer to."
"Well I don't blame you." She said, "but I am pissed at you for strangling my best friend." She looked annoyed.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." Now thinking about it, I did feel really bad. The girl didn't deserve that. She probably I knew about as much as I did.
"I'm heading to her house to see her. She kinda left in a rush." She said,
"Okay..." I mumbled.
There was silence,
"Come with me." She said.
"I don't think the girl would like to see the person who strangled her."
Kaylyn laughed slightly, "Well then you don't have to come into the house but you can hide in the tree beside her bedroom window and listen. Bonnie's a nice girl, she's human and probably has no idea what's going on. I'm going over there to answer some of her questions and actually I think it might answer some of your questions." She put her hands on my shoulders. Her hands were tiny and delicate. You would think that she was a small, defenseless girl if you didn't know anything about Kaylyn but in reality she was probably one of the toughest girls I knew.
"Okay." I said, then we were both running towards the girls house. I had probably guessed that I shouldn't tell anyone that I had come with Kaylyn. I hoped that this would just give me some release to all the burning questions I had.
Hey guys! So I thought I would change it up a bit and write this chapter from a different POV. I might do some more of this in future chapters. I hope you're enjoying the book. If you are then you might enjoy another book that I am currently writing called The Element's Children.
