Chapter Ninteen: All we needed was a little time

People started coming in and going out the infirmary fast and it looked as though someone was rewinding a video. Hermione took the necklace off us when it stopped spinning and Harry still looked lost.
"What just happened? Where's Ron?" He questioned looking around the room.
"7:30! Where were we at 7:30?" Hermione asked urgently.
"I don't know going to Hagrid's" Harry replied. Hermione grabbed mine and Harry's arms and pulled us into a run.
"And remember we can't be seen" She repeated. We ran outside and across the bridge to where Hermione punched Malfoy.
"Hermione will you please tell me what it is we're doing?" Harry asked for the hundredth time. We stopped and looked around the corner at past us and Ron. "That's us?" Harry exclaimed. "This is not normal" He said as Hermione pulled him back around the corner and explained everything.
"Dumbledore obviously wanted us to return to this moment. Clearly there's something that happened he wants us to change" Hermione said. I heard the crack of Malfoy's nose.
"Nice punch" Harry complemented.
"Thanks" Hermione blushed.
"Malfoy's coming!" Hermione said as she pushed as out beside the exit of the bridge so we weren't seen. We waited for past us to leave so we could follow. We made our way over to where past us were standing.
"Buckbeak's still alive" I said.
"Of course! Remember what Dumbledore said; if we succeed more than one innocent life could be spared. Let's go!" She said as we ran down to Hagrid's and hid behind the huge pumpkins. Dumbledore, the minister and the executioner were on their way down.
"Here they come. We better hurry" Harry said standing up. Hermione and I pulled him back down.
"Fudge has to see Buckbeak before we steal him" Hermione said.
"Otherwise he'll think Hagrid set him free right?" I said.
"Exactly" Hermione said. We went back to watching past us in Hagrid's hut. Ron had just got Scabbers back.
"That's Pettigrew!" Harry said threw gritted teeth.
"Harry you can't" I said.
"That's the man who betrayed my parents, you don't expect me to just sit here" Harry said
"Yes you must" Hermione said pulling Harry closer to the hut and out of sight. "Harry you're in Hagrid's hut now. If you just go bursting in you'll think you've gone mad. Awful things have happened to wizards who meddle with time. We can't be seen" Hermione explained. Fudge was getting closer.
"Fudge is coming, and we're not leaving" I observed. "Why aren't we leaving!" I said. I looked back at Hermione awaiting an answer. She just picked up a rock and threw it through the window.
"Are you mad!" Harry said. She ignored him and picked up another rock and threw it again. It hit the back of Harry's head. "Ow! That hurt" He exclaimed quietly.
"Sorry" Hermione apologised as Dumbledore, the minister and the executioner reached the door and knocked. Past us came out as they went in.
"Come on, we're coming out the back door. Go!" Hermione said ushering us towards the forbidden forest. We made it in just in time as past us hid behind the pumpkins. Hermione pulled a branch out of her way and watched past us. "Is that really what my hair looks like from behind?" She asked as a twig snapped. She jumped back behind the tree.
"What?" Past Harry asked.
"I thought I just saw...nevermind" Past Hermione said then they took off towards the castle and we made our way back to the pumpkins. Past me looked back at Buckbeak.
"Evangeline" Buckbeak said glumly.
"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. I promise" Past me said as stray tear escaped my eye and rolled down my cheek.
"Go Harry" Hermione said as Harry made his way to Buckbeak. He bowed and Buckbeak bowed back. Harry grabbed the chain and untied it quietly. He tried pulling but Buckbeak wouldn't budge. I stepped forward.
"Buckbeak come on" I said. He looked up instantly.
"Evangeline...but I just saw you go back to the castle" He said confused. I grabbed some dead ferrets and waved them in front of him.
"Come on I'll explain later. We don't have time now" I said as he stood up and followed me. Dumbledore and the minister came outside looking in the opposite direction. I froze and so did Hermione. "Come on Beaky" I whispered giving him a ferret. "Harry keep pulling. Follow me" I whispered hastily as we neared the forest. We made it just as Fudge turned around. We ran deeper into the forest so we couldn't be seen.
"Okay Buckbeak stay here" I said handing him another ferret.
"But-" He started.
"Stay" I said sternly. He nodded and sat down.
I ran to the edge of the forest to where I could see the Whomping Willow which thankfully wasn't that far away. Past Harry, Hermione and I were watching Ron being dragged into the hole. Past me change into a snow leopard and jumped past the branches and into the hole. Past Harry and Hermione were really taking a beating. I closed my eyes and held out my hands in the direction of the tree and concentrated on calming it down. When I opened my eyes it was swaying gently in the breeze and past Harry and Hermione ran in. Turned back and saw Harry and Hermione coming my way.
"Now what?" Harry asked.
"We save Sirius" Hermione said.
"How?" I asked.
"No idea" She said. Well that's brilliant.
"Look, there's Lupin..." Hermione said as Lupin cast immobulus on the tree and went inside. "And Snape" as Snape went inside.
"And now we wait?" I asked.
"And now we wait" Hermione confirmed. I sat further back than them, near Buckbeak, and threw a ball of fire back and forth in my hands to pass the time. I had already explained to Buckbeak what we were doing and how we've gone back in time.
"How can you do that?" Buckbeak asked. I made the flame disappear.
"I honestly don't know" I admitted. "Hey, please don't think I'm crazy, but before when I was down at the lake trying to find Harry and Sirius, I saw my mother" I said.
"But she's" Beaky said.
"Dead I know. It might not have been her but there was someone and that some helped chase the dementors away. Someone who could produce a really powerful patronus. A full patronus" I said.
"Here we come" I heard Hermione say. I got up and walked over to them. When I reached them the moon shone from behind the clouds and Lupins howl filled the air. We made our way closer to where the fight was happening. Lupin was approaching on past Harry.
"AARROOOOOO!" Hermione howled like a wolf as Harry tried to cover her mouth.
"What are you doing?!?" Harry exclaimed.
"Saving your life" She said as she howled again. The werewolf left Harry and started towards us.
"Great now it's coming this way" I pointed out.
"Yeah, didn't think about that" She admitted. "Run!" We took off running deeper into the forest. I tripped on a tree root and Harry grabbed my hand and pulled me up. We ran and hid behind a huge tree. I looked down and saw Harry was still holding my hand. I blushed slightly.
"You can let go of my hand now" I whispered.
"Oh, sorry" He said blushing like mad.
"Shh!" Hermione said. We moved around the tree as the werewolf did but unfortunately he was right behind us as we came into the open. He was approaching on us.
"Run! I'll distract him" I said. Someone grabbed my arm. I turned and it was Harry.
"Are you insane!" He said.
"I'll be fine. Just go! I'll catch up later" I said. He reluctantly let go and ran off with Hermione. I faced the werewolf and changed into my animagus form. He charged at me and I dodged so he slammed into a tree. He went to charge again but I slashed his cheek with my claws. He got mad and swiped at me making me fly back and hit a tree. This time I charged at him but he swiped at my face. I let out a loud meow from the pain. I felt warm liquid drip down my face. I was hit again and knocked down to the ground. The werewolf pinned me down and was about to bite me when Buckbeak came and scared him off. I got up and changed back to human form.
"Evangeline! Are you alright?" Beaky asked.
"Fine, which way did Harry and Hermione go?" I puffed, wiping away some blood.
"They went to the lake. Hop on" He said and I climbed on his back. He galloped through the forest until we reached the lake. I jumped off and made my way over to Harry and Hermione. Thank god it was dark so they couldn't see me face.
"What did I miss" I asked.
"My dad should be coming any minute" He said. That reminded me of my mum.
"I'll be back" I said then ran around the lake until I found where past me was lying on the ground. She should come any minute now.
"Where are you?" I asked. After a few minutes I realized no one was going to come. I stepped out, took out my wand, and thought not of my mother but being back at the orphanage with Violet and the others. Seeing them happy now that its changed.
"Expecto Patronum!" I cast and out came a silvery snow leopard and landed softly on the ground. Not long after a bright light lit up the whole lake, along with Harry's stag. As soon as it disappeared I heard footsteps from over the other side of the lake. I hid behind a bush and peeped through the leaves. It was Snape. He was conjuring stretchers and lifting the limp bodies of Sirius and Harry onto them with a scowl on his face. He was about to leave when he turned and saw my body further up the bank. Once he reached past me his face softened ever so slightly. He stared for a moment with a hint of sadness in his eyes. He shook his head as if dismissing a thought and the scowl returned once again. Once he left I re-joined Harry, Hermione and Buckbeak.
"Come on Ang, we don't have long" Harry said boosting me up onto Buckbeaks back. He helped Hermione up then climbed on himself. I was in front.
"Alright Beaky, to the top cell of the Dark tower. Let's go!" I said nudging Buckbeaks sides with my heels and he took off into the sky. I loved the feeling of the wind in my hair but we were on a mission. I couldn't get distracted. Hermione was squealing the whole way, complaining about flying and saying how much she hated it. We reached the cell and slid of Buckbeak. I ran over to the cell and took out my wand.
"Bombarda!" I said as the cell blew open.
"Hurry, we don't have much time. They could be here at any moment" Harry said hastily. We all climbed back onto Buckbeak, with no room to spare, and made our way to the courtyard. With a clatter, Buckbeak landed and we all slid off.
"I'll be forever grateful for this. To all of you" Sirius said.
"Evangeline" Buckbeak squawked. I walked back over to him to give Harry and Sirius some privacy.
"Shh Buckbeak. You don't want to get caught eith-" I started but he hugged me cutting me off.
"Thankyou" He said when he pulled away.
"No biggie" I said then sighed sadly.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"It's just...I don't know if I'll ever see you again. You can't stay here now" I answered.
"We will see eachother again. I know it" He reassured. I smiled and ruffled the feathers on his head.
"Evangeline, could I talk to you for a moment" Sirius asked. I nodded and made my over. "You are so much like your mother, you know that? Not just by looks but by heart." He asked. I smiled.
"So I've been told numerous times" I said.
"Your mother and I were like siblings. Which nowadays I don't know how that was possible. I was always wreaking havoc with the boys and she was the nice one who helped everyone, even slytherins and even scolded us. But..." He got a wicked grin. "She had some tricks up her sleeves. Most of our greatest prank ideas came from her. No-one believed us though. Anyways I'm sure you've heard of the Marauders map?" He said. I nodded.
"That was her idea. Of course she was being sarcastic about it but we turned it into the real deal. And we thought it was time to dub her an official Marauder" He said.
"My mum was a Marauder...wow" I said.
"Blizzard...that was her name. Because she-" He started.
"-She was a snow leopard animagus too" I finished smiling. Just then the clock started chiming. Sirius quickly climbed on Buckbeak.
"I'm sorry I couldn't tell you what you wanted" He said to me.
"I guess I'll just find out when destiny sees fit" I said,sadly.
"Nicole always had a way with words. Surprised she wasn't in Ravenclaw actually" He said. He looked at the ground, thinking. "What ever happens, know your mother loved you very much. She... Always tried to do good by you. She had her flaws, but then again so does everyone" he started quietly but sternly, ending in a lighter one. He gave us all one last glance and a nod then took off into the sky. Harry watched as they got smaller.
"Come on, Harry we have to go!" Hermione said hurriedly pulling on his arm. His eyes didn't leave the skies until we were inside. We sprinted out hearts out to get back to the infirmary on time. We got there just as Dumbledore was closing the door. He turned.
"Well?" he asked.
"He's free! We did it!" Harry said panting hard.
"Did what?" He said with a twinkle in his eye. "Good night" He said as he left. I opened the doors a crack to see inside. We were vanishing so I opened the doors fully and walked inside with the others following me.
"How did you get there! I was just talking to you there!!" Ron exclaimed.
"What's he talking about Harry?" I asked, smirking.
"I don't know. Honestly Ron, how can someone be in two places at once" Harry said, then we all laughed. Well except Ron since he still had no idea what was going on, making us laugh even harder.
