Chloe's POV:
I meet up with Maddie in the hall of the Café.
She runs up and gives me a ginormous hug. I give her one back. I straight away know she saw my message to the bullies.
I whisper to her, "You're beautiful.. Never forget that. I really love you as a Perfect friend!"
"You are the most sensational friend anyone could have. I'm so lucky to have you. I love you as a friend too." She smiles at me.
Just then, Abby walks in and tells us to come to the table. We sit together ready for the discussion. Waiting for Melissa to come.
At that moment, Josh comes up to me and tells me that we need to talk later. I nod and smile.
Christi clicks her glass to get everyone's attention.
"Okay, hello everyone. Hope dance is going well. I have very important and upsetting news. May as well come straight out with it. I have Breast Cancer - Stage 3 of 4. The reason they didn't detect it sooner is because it's a deadly specie of cancer. It's very small - uneasy to detect but very dangerous.." Melissa says.
All I feel is shock, pain and hurt. Of all people... My best friends mom?! Yeah - my mom and Melissa may not have been ALWAYS friends but she looked out for me.. And that's what I admired about her. I look around the table as a tear streams down my eye. They look hurt, and shocked as well. Then I look beside me at Maddie. Expressionless. That makes sense with the abusing.
We all run up to Melissa and hug her - well except for Maddie of course.
Maddie's POV:
They all run up to mom and hug her - except for me. I don't know what I'm feeling. I have a sharp pain in my stomach though.. I don't know why.
They take a seat and ask questions.
Holly asks, "what are the options?"
"Chemotherapy." Mom says.
"That's settled then. You try it." Abby says, and I can tell that she is very, very upset.
"No. No. It's not that easy. I have a 50 percent chance of surviving. I might be left paralyzed. Or I might die." I can see mom holding back tears.
Christi runs up to her. "It's alright honey, you can get through this..I will help you."
They hug.
Mom gulps and continues, "Or I compete no surgery and love 8-12 months."
Mackenzie runs to mom and hugs her. Chloe looks at me with a smile. If cant say no to that beautiful face. Not to mention that I can't show disrespect.
I falsely - hoping that no one notices that I am - walk to mom and hug her.
After that, we head home.
I go to my room. I decide I have a shower. I wash my hair with my favorite hair products, and wear my favourite pajamas. As soon as I finish, a text message appears on my phone. Josh.
• Josh: Hey, I'm dropping past your house. I need to speak to you.
I respond with:
Yeah, alright! See you soon.
30 minutes later, the door bell rings.
