I realized. There must have been a lot of traffic due to the downpour. Mom and Dad said they were going for a formal. It should have only taken them a few hours to finish up and get back home but the rain would lengthen the time substantially. They locked the door because they were almost sure that they would be back home before me.
I looked round. There was no shelter anywhere. I continued to rudder and shiver, I wasn't dressed in the proper attire for the stormy weather. I could feel my body temperature dropping.
"Mommy..." I called, my eyes widened and looking round for any hope, "Daddy!"
I got up from the wooden stairway and wiped the dust off my joggers. I needed to find shelter.
My eyes wandered to that house. The place where the new kid lived. The one who didn't seem like he could pass for a prom date even if he got the most expensive tuxedo around. I smiled at the thought.
His porch was my only shelter now so I scurried through the rain, slipping once on the muddy asphalt then getting up and proceeding again.
I lunged under the porch and lay down there, tired after my little run. When I looked across to my house and saw I could have just walked across the lawn, I chuckled.
"Amber dear, never play on the lawn again, we try hard to keep it well groomed."
I sat up. What if Mommy never came back? What if a bad man attacked her? My lips were beginning to quiver and I felt warm tears roll down my cheeks. What about Daddy?
I started to whine.
The porch light came on and I stopped abruptly.
A little boy in pajamas and soaked bunny flip flops walked out.
"Why are you cwying?" he called.
When I realized it was that kid. The unglamorous, and common one, I ignored him.
He dropped to sit beside me and patted my back. I looked at him. His touch calmed me down, he started to play with my hair and form twisted knots with it.
"Pwetty girls shouldn't cwy."
I laughed.
"Mommy and Daddy aren't coming home."
He stroked my hair again before getting up and offering me his hand. I took it and he pulled me up before taking me inside and locking the door quietly. He switched off the porch light and motioned for me to follow him upstairs and he walked on his toes. I did the same.
He opened the door to his room and allowed me go in first. When he turned off the light, I was taken aback when I saw his mom sitting on his bed. He went red.
"Darling, where were you?"
He sighed, "I heard a girl cwying so I went outside to check."
She pouted,"I guess she can stay the night," she turned to look at me, "Dear, aren't your parents home?"
I shook my head.
She got up and told me I could stay before leaving.
I looked at Jay and he stared back at me.
"It's time to sweep," he called.
I nodded, staring down at the floor.
To my surprise, he pulled out a sleeping bag and placed it on the floor before laying on it.
My eyes widened, I imagined they were as wide as that of a bobble head, "Why?"
He grinned, "Pwetty girls don't sleep on the floor."
My heart stopped and I went red.A/N
Heyyy. Third update in three days, wow, I deserve a cookie, nah, I've enjoyed writing it. The book felt like showing a bit of the past, so I wrote it. Is it good? Who's the boy? Although that's pretty obvious lol anyway, I hope the chapter was good enough
