We had agreed that New York was always a good idea, so we left our God-forgotten town and made our way down to New York state. We were taking two cars because we didn’t all fit into one, so while I was driving with Matt, Aubrey and Levi; Mia and Stella were riding together with Ryan and two of Matt’s friends.
The things with this trip was that, while I wanted to have fun with my friends and visit cool and new places, I also wanted to play cupid and make Stella and Ryan become official.
So, as we drove down to NY, I was texting Mia and Stella with a silly grin on my face. Turns out that since it was Ryan’s car and his two friends were taking the backseat, Mia had wanted to take the backseat as well, so she could ‘get to know them’; letting Stella call shotgun and leaving her alone with Ryan in the front seats. Obviously, Matt’s friend had declared themselves completely exhausted and were taking a nap, while Mia encouraged Stella to talk to Ryan.
It was such a shame that I was missing it.
After a ton of hours, we seemed to never reach our destiny. I yawned for what felt like the hundredth time and looked at my phone. It was now 10pm and fortunately there was only half a mile to go. We were staying at a cheap hotel in Queens and my expectations weren’t very high. Anyway, I didn’t care how it was really, because I was here to see the city.
What surprised me was my craving to go shopping. I was never one to love hours and hours of shopping, wandering around malls and carrying the bags and looking at price tags; but this was New York City. I had to go shopping, and I had to buy something, even if it was just a postcard or a magnet.
Once we reached the hotel, I stopped daydreaming about shopping. All we wanted to do was get to our rooms, have a shower and get some good sleep. We had a lot of hours by car on our shoulders and we needed the rest if we wanted to wander the city the next day.
Let me tell you that I wasn’t the one who had made the sleeping arrangements. It was obvious that it had been Mia and Aubrey, who had become pretty good friends lately. Thanks to them, we had four rooms and while Matt’s friends were all sleeping in the same room (all three in separate beds, I was hoping), Aubrey and Levi also shared a room and Stella and Mia had completely betrayed me and had left me alone with Matt, sharing the room.
My face resembled a tomato when Matt wiggled his eyebrows at me while grabbing our room key and his friends started whistling at us.
I grabbed my suitcase with anger and stormed to the elevator, praying that the doors would slam on somebody’s face. Thankfully it did, closing right before Matt and Mia could step in, leaving me alone with the tacky elevator tune.
Truth was I didn’t even know which floor I was supposed to stop at, since Matt had our key and I had been so annoyed that I had left without asking the floor, so instead of wandering around the hallways I pressed the top floor button hoping that this cheap ass hotel would have at least decent views.
At the top floor, the elevator led you straight to a small rooftop lit up with Christmas lights, something I was absolutely not expecting. It was quite beautiful. The amazing thing was that you could see the Brooklyn bridge from hear all lit at night and it was completely breathtaking.
