Life Never goes as Planned

Lunch Date

How odd that Lacy picked a fancy Italian restaurant to have a date in, I mean we usually go out for coffee or the Mexican grill. Luckily I was wearing a nice light pink dress with nude heels so I didn't have to go home to change. I walk in and I'm greeted by the hostess. "Table for one?" I smile. "There's someone waiting for me, I believe it's under Lacy." She nods and looks down. "Ah yes right this way." She says and escorts me to the table. I get a text and I start to read it and as soon as I get to the table I see Killian standing there. "What are you doing here? Where's Lacy?" He's just smiling there, handsome as ever. He comes and pulls out my chair and I sit down. "Thanks. I say in a confused tone as I sit down. "Why are you here?" I ask him. He smiles as he sits down. "I know that I'm your intern but I don't care, I decided to take you out on a date." My eyes shot open. "A date? Why?" I say. "You need some time off and away from the institute so I tricked you into thinking you were coming to see Lacy because if I would have asked you, you wouldn't have come." I chuckle. "You think you know me that well after 9 months Mr. Jones?" "Well I do, I know everything about you." I nod. "So you know that we can't be seen together, I am your boss and we can't be here." He smirks. "Um no, we can't be seen together in the institute in a personal manner but as you can see we are not in the institute." They place a Raspberry Lemonade in front of me. "I guess you do know me." I say. He smiles and I couldn't help but smile back.

We continued to talk and I was having a good time but then it hit me again, that feeling in my heart and in my stomach. I tried to ignore it and enjoy my time here with Killian. Our food came and we ate but I couldn't help it that feeling was hitting me hard and that scared me. We finished eating and after that we talked some more and then we walked outside and he walked me to my car. "See you in a few minutes boss." He says as he winks at me and hands me a bouquet of sunflowers and roses. I smile. "Thanks but don't be late." He smiles. "No promises." He closes my door and walks away. I put the flowers in my purse and drive away. As I'm driving I couldn't help but smile and think about Killian. No, no we are colleagues and nothing more, I cannot fall in love with him. I have to keep my walls up, I'm too scared but just maybe, this can work. "No!" I screamed as I drove out of the restaurant.

I walk back in the office and I sit down and I put the flowers in a vase and put water in it. I smile and that's when Lacy walks in. "So how did your date with Killian go?" I gave her a baffled look. "What are you talking about?" I say as I'm typing away on my computer. She closes the door and sits in the chairs in front of my desk. "He told me that he was taking you out on a date but used me as an excuse because he knew you would never bail out on me." I laughed. "Oh you two are something else." I say and look at the flowers. "By the way you look at those flowers, I could say that the date went well." I smiled. "Oh yes it did, he was wonderful." She raised her eyebrows and smiled. I wiped the smile off my face and sighed. "This can't be, I can't be with him, he's my intern and I am his boss and it just can't be." "Seriously Emma?" Lacy screams out. "You just can't accept the fact that you are happy with Killian, you just can't let go of the past and what happened with those idiots, this man has literally been with you all this time and he is proving to you that he's interested in you." I stayed quiet. She walks up to me and smiles. "Emma I love you, please don't let him go, don't be scared of this and this career isn't everything in life you hear." I smile and sigh. "I'm sorry can you let Killian well Mr. Jones know that I won't be here for the rest of the day. Tell him that my mom called and I had to go visit her, he doesn't know that I don't talk to her so he won't question it." She nods. "I love you Emma." She says and smiles. "I love you too Lacy." And I walk out of the office and drive to the beach.
