Chapter 23- Disappointment

*Gotham City Gymnastics Building*

"Welcome to Gotham School's Gymnastics Competition! Today, we are all here to see which schools and which students are going to win the gold medal and big cup. Now, please everyone, take a seat. All of the gymnasts, get back to your places. Until your school and name is announced, wait at the changing rooms and get ready. Good Luck!"

A woman in white dress and an amblem of the Gotham City on her neck made the announcement.

It was 08.00 PM. The competition was planned to start in fifteen minutes. Dick was in the changing rooms, sitting with his teammates.

One of his teammates was Luke Ronner, heir of the billion dollars cost RonCorp. His father was a rival for Bruce. But however, Dick and Luke were good friends when it came to schoolwork. Also, Luke was a good gymnast.

The other was Daniel McKaine. Daniel was pretty smart. His genius brain gave him a scholarship for Gotham Academy. His techniques in Gymnastics were also good, too. But sometimes, he was just acting like an annoying know-it-all. Dick really didn't care. Because he never spoke to the boy until today.

Coach came next to the boys. "Alright, last minutes and the first team will be announced. Everybody is ready?" All of them nodded. "Okay, kids, I expect you to have this gold medal, at least silver, and make me proud. Show them that you are not just rich spoiled kids. Show them what you are capable of!" He yelled while the other teams shot them glares. Dick could swear that he heard one of them say 'stupids'. But he didn't respond.

Coach smiled and left the changing room. At the other side of the gym, Coach Nydia was talking with the girls, then she left to meet with boy's coach.

"Oh, Luke! Good Luck sweetheart!" Mrs. Ronner said, coming to hug her child with her husband. Mr. Ronner smirked and whispered to Luke's ear. "You can do it, son. Beat them!" Luke smiled and hugged back.

And another voice raised in his ears. "Dan!" It was Daniel's uncle. "Good Luck." The boy's eyes shine when he saw his uncle. He thanked to him after hugging him tightly.

The parents and relatives left. Competition started with North High School. Then Mrs. Hellington Academy's students performed. Finally, it was time for their performance. The same woman from the beginning announcement called for Gotham Academy.

Barbara was first to go on the beam. She balanced perfectly. With a back flip, she finished her beam performance. Definitely, she had one medal, at least. And then floor, bars, vault too.

Dick and Barbara practiced together everytime they wanted to. Which caused them to get closer. Today, her father asked Bruce if he wanted him to bring Dick too. Bruce accepted, saying he had a few thing came up and he'd be here before the show would start.

He didn't come.

Still, Dick waited to see if the man was going to surprise him. So, when his name was announced, Dick went to the rings and looked around again. Bruce was nowhere to be seen.

He doesn't care.

Dick shook his head violently, not accepting what he thought.

He never cared.

"Grayson, you ready?"

Dick snapped his head up to his coach who had his arms open to help Dick up to the rings.

"Yes, sir."

He will not care.

With the help of the coach, he held the rings tightly and slowly, put all of the weights in his both arms while he pushed his body up, parallel to his legs.
