"Camila?"

Lauren entered the hospital room minutes after Gerald's death.

"I got your text, I didn't think anything serious happened so I took a shower and put on some make up."

Camila looked up at Lauren with bloodshot eyes and a painful expression. "What happened?" Lauren asked, sensing the vibe given from the smaller girl.

"He's gone." Her voice was scratchy, reminding her of Gerald's when she first walked in; sandpaper.

"What are you talking about? They took him to another room?"

Looking up at Lauren, Camila gritted her teeth, exposing her jawline. "No, they didn't take him to another room. He's dead. He's gone."

Lauren gasped, then covered her mouth. It was funny to Camila that Lauren was in such "shock", especially since she was the one who told her to leave Gerald and don't ever bother with him.

Chuckling, Camila ran her fingers through her hair. "Why the fuck are you laughing? He's dead!"

"Oh, like you care!" Tears poured down Camila's cheeks, hitting the cold tile floor.

"Camila, just because..just because him and I were never really on good terms doesn't mean that I wouldn't care if he died."

Camila stayed silent, picking at her skin on the side of her nails. "Did the doctors tell you harshly?"

And yet, not another word from the small girl.

"Look you don't have to tell me what they told you, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal that they don't tell you in a sympathetic way."

It was almost as if Camila stopped breathing, stopped doing everything. She was completely shut out.

Lauren was confused at this point, she didn't know why Camila was still in this room. Then, it finally hit her.

"You saw it, didn't you?"

Looking up once more, Camila nodded slowly. Nodding, Lauren sighed.

"I'm sorry you had to see that, Camz."

"Me too."

Scratching the back of her neck, Lauren bit her lip. "How about we go home? We can, we can uh, make some soup? You know, maybe even watch movies?"

"Why don't you just invite Devon over, make it a party." Camila didn't mean to be so harsh, but the bitterness was coming out of her faster than she meant it.

Lauren didn't let it get to her, so in response she chuckled. "Like a death party trend you see on Twitter, huh?"

That earned a giggle from Camila, who sat up from the floor and wiped her eyes. "Yeah, can see that."

Lauren began walking out of the hospital room, reaching in her pocket for her car keys. "You took your car, yeah? I can just leave my car here and drive yours."

Camila toned Lauren out, only because she was examining the room. Before she could say anything, her mind traced back to the journal Gerald was talking about.
