Evan lifted his head up off the back of the couch with a sigh. The effort to enter her dreams had been worthless. He got no answers, but he couldn't help but smile, for he had been missing her.
"Well, did you find her?"another voice said, interrupting his memory.
Evan shook his head. "No. It was hard enough reaching her, and when I finally did, well, we were interrupted by our little friend, Jay."
"Jay? What do you mean?"
Evan shrugged, "I don't know. He was waking her up, calling her beautiful, and she was more than happy to go to him."
"What? Why was he waking her up? And calling her that... he shouldn't have done that," he replied, clenching his fists.
"You really should control your jealousy, Sam. After all you left her," Evan replied, as he stood up and walked out of the room.
"For the same reason you did," Sam said, following Evan to the kitchen.
"No," Evan said, and took a drink of milk. "There is a difference. You left on your own. I left because you told me too."
"She wasn't safe with us around and you know that."
"Yeah I know that, now. Because you told me. But if you want to keep her away, really Sam, control your emotions." Evan laughed.
"We have to find her," Sam said, as he started pacing the floor. "You'll have to try again tonight, and keep trying until you know where she is."
"I don't understand what the big deal is. She is probably just visiting Jay or something."
Sam shook his head, "No, she's been gone for weeks and no one knows where she is. I'm afraid she is looking for me. You know how stubborn she is."
"Right, she is coming after you, but getting awfully close to Jay. That makes complete sense." Evan shook his head. "Just leave it alone, Sam. Let her be happy. You owe her that much."
Sam nodded slowly, as he headed towards the door. " . . . And I will. Just as soon as I know she is a safe distance away. You know what would happen if they found her snooping around." He paused then added, "You know how to contact me when you know something."
Evan rolled his eyes. "I can't believe I agreed to help you with this."
"You owe me," was all Sam said before he closed the door behind him.
"Right," Evan said to himself. "A life debt."
