A Mystery

Y/N's POV

Laurence and Garroth are on my couch, both doing they're own thing. Laurence is reading a book, earbuds in his ears and a stoned look on his face. Garroth is taking a nap. I walk up to the couch and sit next to Laurence.
"Why do you look so serious?" I ask him, and he looks at me, taking out his earbuds.
"Come again?"
"Why do you look so serious?" I repeat. Laurence leans back, releasing a loud sigh and stretching his back.
"I'm just tired..." Laurence replies, "On my trip with Cadenza, we was going to go help my mom and dad because my mother was going into labor with my new baby brother, Caleb. I had the morning shift watching the baby most of the time..." He laughs, closing his eyes, "I guess I'm not very good at taking care of kids!"
"Oh boy," I giggle, "what did you do?"
"I asked Caleb if he wanted a taco," Laurence says and I become quiet, holding in a laugh. Then we both burst out laughing, Laurence slapping his knee a couple of times.
"Well I'm so glad you could come to my wedding!" I smile, "We all missed you over the summer!"
"I missed you guys too!" Laurence smiles back, but then his face stones again, "Did Aphmau and Aaron get any personal time together while I was gone?!" Always back to Aphmau.
"Not that I know of. I think they're still just friends. But don't count on my view on it."
"Okay... I'm sorry for bringing that up again..."
"It's fine." We go quiet for a minute before Laurence picks up his phone and unplugs his earbuds. "What were you listening to?"
"NOTHING," Laurence shoves his phone in his pocket. "I mean... it doesn't matter..."
"I guess it'll forever be a mystery," I smirk and Laurence rolls his eyes.
"You know what else is a mystery?"
"What?"
"Zenix's job," Laurence mutters and I look at my feet. It's true. That's the only thing I don't know about him is his job...
"I guess you're right," I answer.
"WE SHOULD FIGURE IT OUT!" Laurence abruptly stands up and walks over to my kitchen. I stand up and follow him, not quite sure what he's doing.
"Laurence wait!" I walk into the kitchen, "What are you doing?!" He doesn't answer me, just looks around the kitchen and suddenly, grabs Zenix's sweatshirt.
"AH-HA!!!"
"What? It's just his sweatshirt!"
"BUT IT'S EVIDENCE! It must mean that he can't wear it to work!" Laurence concludes.
"Or maybe because it's hot outside and he didn't want to wear a sweatshirt," I sigh, "Laurence, that is stupi---" but there's something I see, so I interrupt myself, "What is that?"
"What?"
"On the sweatshirt," I grab the sleeve and pick off something from the sweatshirt: it's an animal hair.
"WHAT IF HE DOES DOG FIGHTS?!" Laurence gasps, but I shove him.
"Irene, no. That's illegal. He might just be like Garroth and secretly raising an animal," I shrug.
"Garroth raised an animal secretly?" Laurence asks and I nod. "I'm assuming he named it Sprinkles."
"Surprisingly he didn't," I say, taking the sweatshirt. I see some blood on the very edge of the sleeves on the sweatshirt and feel my stomach churn.
"What's this?" Laurence pulls out a sticky note from the pocket of the sweatshirt, "It has an address on it!" I take the note from Laurence and see that it is an address: 2095 Raven Drive. Then it says, Go through the alley to the back. "That seems kinda ominous."
"Yeah..." I am suddenly filled with determination, "Let's follow it."

What is Zenix's job? Thank you so much for reading and sorry for taking a little longer to update! I've been sick for the past couple of days, so I should be back on schedule once I recover! A new chapter will be out soon!
