Lauren
JFK is just like every typical high school. School colors on every wall bleeding red and oozing white. A giant mountain lion symbol lays on the floor right as you walk in. Trophy cases and pictures of important past administrators liven up the walls.
This sucks. I can think of a million places I'd rather be right now then being rubbed up against by a bunch of obnoxious teenagers. One place being back in my bed. Ahh I can imagine just diving right back in. Curling into a ball and pass out.
Bam! Someone slams into me hard. "What the fuck?" I shove him away from me. "Watch where you're going freak!" He yells back making his way pass me again.
I flip him off but I doubt he seen. He's busy high fiving his guy friends who all have letter men jackets on. Ugh jocks.
I turn and make my way to my homeroom. It's a small class where she teaches English originally. The board reads Mrs. White. A quick scan of the class and I see an empty seat in the back. Score!
Kids pile in, I notice the three cheerleaders who were in front of my car this morning. Great I smell the pep all the way back here.
Right as the bell rings in walks a dark skinned woman with little reading glasses. I can't help but snicker because Mrs. White is anything but. God does have a sense of humor.
"Alright, this is your homeroom for the duration of the year. I am Mrs. White. now as I call you're name say here." Her voice has a southern accent. I like it.
She starts to call out kids names, I notice the trio all have "H" last names. The teacher finally gets to me. "Lauren Juh-re-gi" It's Jauregui." I correct her pronunciation. "Alright, Ms. Jauregui. Please remove your hat."
I would normally fight it and demand to wear it but it's the first day. I can't spare the energy. I slide off my beanie and slip it into my back pocket. "Thank you." Then she continues row call.
Later as announcements are beginning she hands out formal papers for us to sign as agreements for dress codes and rules. Lame stuff. Since I didn't bring any supplies because hello first day of school, I raise my hand.
"Yes?" Mrs. White looks over at me. "I don't have a pencil." I say flatly. She walks over and hands me a pen.
I start to absently minded sign everything but notice the ink is coming out way to fast. I touch the tip with my finger and it pops off. Ink rushes out and covers my hand. Great.
I stand and walk over to her desk. She looks at me through her tiny glasses. I raise my hands to show her the damage. "What did you do?" Her eyes widen. "I don't know." I reply honestly. "Go wash up. Don't touch anything." She stands then opens the door for me.
I walk down the hall to the closest girls room. I hope no one is in there, I don't want to hear anyone taking a waz.
Camila
The girls and I walk over to the rest of the squad. We all greet and squeal about the excitement of senior year. I tell the junior varsity squad hi. They all look so tiny and cute! One girl even has a bow just like mines but smaller. I hug her extra tight!
Ally and I are eventually left alone because Dinah and Normani disappear to meet their boyfriends. We're the only single girls out of all of us. Ally is way to religious to think about boys right now. She says true love waits. However I'm the only one who knows about her fling with a guy at her churches summer camp. She said they kissed and watched the stars all night. It sounded soo romantic. I wrote a short story about it in my journal.
"Earth to Camila!" Ally waves her hand in front of me. "Sorry. I was lost in thought." I smile at her. "You been tuned out all day. What's up?" She ask as we walk down the hall. "I'm just excited!" I throw my head back with a wide smile. Ally laughs at me and quickly stops. "What?" I ask concerned trying to read her face. "Don't look now but I think Austin is staring at you." She motions her eyes to the left.
I sneak a glance and sure enough he standing by some guys looking our way. I swallow hard. I don't want anyone staring at me like I'm a piece of meat. It's gross and wrong.
Ally raises her eyebrows up and down. "Stop it!" I gentle smack her arm. "I am so not ready to date right now." I say proudly as we walk on.
Once we're outside my homeroom, I hug Ally bye. Our homerooms are divided by our last names. Her, Normani and Dinah always have the same homeroom. I get stuck alone. Curse my last name right now!
I walk into home room and see the teacher standing by his desk. He has on suspenders over his button up. I take a quick scan and notice I know no one except the guy in the middle row. It's Siope, Dinah's boyfriend. They've dating for awhile now so I know him pretty well.
"Hey Siope!" I cheer as I sit next to him. "Hey Camila!" He mocks my cheery tone. I make a face and he laughs. "Haven't seen you in awhile. Dinah keeps you hidden." I poke at his side. "Yea she doesn't like to share." He jokes back.
The teacher goes over guidelines and all that great stuff. He has an English accent so it all sounds so beautiful.
I stay chatting on and off with Siope. Someone in the back opened the window. So the room has a cool feel now. I get chills all over.
Right as the announcements start, the sudden urge to go to the bathroom is overwhelming. I walk over to Mr. Edwards and ask to go. He hands me a hall pass and I almost run out into the hall. I'd stop and look into the girls class but I really need to pee.
I handle my business and the relief is real. Just as I open the stall door I hear the faucet being turned on.
Exiting the stall I glance at the girl washing her hands. It's the girl from this morning. She has her hat in her back pocket though. It's sticking out half way. I should look away or she'll think I'm staring at her ass.
I walk to the sink next to her and her eyes look up at me and quickly look away then they shoot back up and focus on me. Should I say something. She looks mean. What if this is just like a high school based movie and the bad ass in a leather jacket wants my lunch money.
"Hi!" I blurt out. She finally looks away. "Hey." I barely hear her say. Phew. She's being nice. That's a good sign
Looking over to her side I see blue filling the sink. "What happened?" I ask. She raises her hands for me to see. "A pen accident." I can't help but laugh. She sounded soo serious. "Sorry, it's just funny the way you said it." I clear my throat after she doesn't reply.
After a good few seconds of awkward silence I speak up. "Well I should get back to class." Still no response. Boy tough crowd.
