Imagine: Being a former companion of the Doctor's, only to run into Jack Harkness, and realizing he needs your help.

I had almost forgotten how life on Earth was like. The moment I stepped out of that blue box for the last time, it all come rushing back to me like a tsunami. A wave of nothing but despair, and I was very ill prepared. I thought I was, I really did. But the moment I heard those ancient engines fade, I knew I had no choice but to adapt to everyday life. If I'm completely honest, I never really got the hang of it in the first place, so this time it was nearly impossible.

But I did it.

After a few months, it seems as though my life was finally starting to get back on track. I was back in school, I was back with my old friends (who didn't even know I had been away), and I was happy. Really, I was. Despite the empty feeling I still get in my chest whenever I'm in English and we talk about Shakespeare or Agatha Christie. Despite the ache I would get in my heart whenever I heard someone talking about something as mundane as doctors or screwdrivers, I was happy.

Life on my home planet had consumed me, so much so, that whenever a spaceship suddenly appeared over the UK, I was in utter shock. My heart started to race and my senses seemed heightened, but it was there. The adrenaline. I knew I had to help, it was the only thought running through my head, but the only factor was how. I was so use to just following along with one of the Doctor's plans that I wasn't sure what to do on my own. I didn't have a TARDIS, or a sonic screwdriver. All I had was my memories of them, and that simply wouldn't do, not now.

"We have to go!" My friend, Angie, exclaimed as she tugged on my hand. We had been out, just taking a casual walk through the city when the sonic boom had rang out. At first I merely thought it was a jet or something, but it had been far too loud. Then the screams of frightened people rang out, and people began pointing to the sky, and I knew exactly what it was.

"Go where?" I asked, my eyes boring into her frightened ones. "There's nowhere to hide, Angie. We could go as far underground as humanly possible, and they'd still find us."

"How the hell do you know?!" She demanded, making me sigh. Sometimes I forget that I was alone, when it came to this kind of thing.

As if life was just trying to prove me wrong, a black Range Rover pulled to a skidding halt on the street beside us, making Angie and I jump back reflexively. My eyes widened as an all too familiar man jumped out of the driver's seat, and I instantly rushed forward and wrapped my arms around his neck.

"Captain!" I breathed, pulling back and looking over his face in awe. "My...look at you! You haven't aged a day!"

He smirked slightly as his hands slid down my arms, "Neither have you, [Y/N]. Looking quite well, if I do say so myself."

"Haven't changed a bit," I beamed happily up at the man. "Jack Harkness, what trouble have we gotten ourselves into now? Do you recognize the ship?"

"Wh-What the hell, [Y/N]?" Angie breathed, her eyes wide as she looked at Jack and I. "Who the hell is this? What the hell is going on? [Y/N]-"

Before I could reply, Jack gave her a dashing smile and pulled a small bottle filled with a black fluid from his pocket, spraying the strange liquid in her face. I gasped in shock as he reached his arms out and caught her as she fell unconscious.

"What was that?" I asked quietly as he carried her to the SUV.

He laid her in the backseat before beckoning me to get in. I did so without hesitating, and barely had the door closed before he was speeding off. "You're friend will be fine, just knocked her out for a bit. Where does she live? Last thing we need is for her to get missed up in this mess."
