Imagine: It's your birthday and the Doctor, instead of making a huge deal of it, decides to spend it with you in the TARDIS.
The cool air seemed to seep through my jacket as I turned the pages of The Final Descent, but I was too invested in the fictional world to even notice the real one. I had fallen in love with yet another stubborn and seemingly emotionless protagonist, and I was determined to finish the series, despite the aching in my heart. The ending was always the hardest part of any story, wasn't it?
I had walked to the park as soon as I had gotten the book in the hopes of getting in a few chapters before the inevitable interruption of...well, surely someone. My mother, my siblings, anyone really. I understand, sure, it's my birthday...but couldn't it wait? I had a book to read.
"No..." I murmured to myself, and despite the music blaring through my earbuds, I could still hear my voice break. "Will Henry, no..."
"Who's Will Henry?" The Doctor's cheery voice made me jump as he plopped down on the bench next to me, nosily craning his head back so he could read over the pages.
"Doctor!" I nudged him slightly as my heart rate calmed. "You scared me! Blimey, you can't just...appear like that, you know that."
"You seemed engrossed," he said simply as I marked my place before closing the book.
"I was," I informed, looking over him with a slight smile. "Hello."
"Hello, love," he grinned happily. "Happy birthday! One year older, one year wiser!"
"One year closer to death," I added, just as cheery, making him scowl. "What?"
"That's not what today is about," he shook his head as he stood up, an obvious hop in is step. "Come on!"
"Where are we going?" I raised an eyebrow. "You didn't try to plan anything, did you? We both know how things work out when you try to organize them."
He gave me a look of annoyance, "You're really not funny, you know."
A laugh left my lips as I stood up, stretching my arms as I did so, "I think I am."
He just shook his head and took my hand into his, "Since it's your birthday, I've decided to treat you!"
"Hmm..." I smirked slightly. He just kept talking, oblivious.
"I've made you something!"
"Oh no..."
"Oh yes!" He beamed.
"Doctor, please tell me you didn't try to cook."
"I did! And I did brilliantly, thank you very much," he nudged me as we walked towards the TARDIS.
"The TARDIS doesn't have any fire damage, does it?"
"As if I'd ever harm my girl," the Doctor patted his beloved ship affectionately as I used my key to open the doors. "Besides, I happen to be a marvelous chef."
"Mhmm," I nodded as I sat my book down on the console. "I'll believe that as soon as I believe in...I don't know, myself."
"You really aren't funny," he shook his head, but I could see a smile on his lips. "Come on!"
I chuckled and followed him down the corridor, into the kitchen. Sitting on the table was a strawberry cheesecake and a blueberry cheesecake, making me beam. It had become my own personal tradition to have cheesecake on my birthday instead of regular cake, because...well, I just preferred it, I suppose. "Oh, Doctor, how did you know?"
"Because I know you," he smiled softly and kissed my cheek.
"I really do love you, you know," I grinned, looking up at him.
"I figured you did," he replied cheekily. "Now, I thought I'd put the kettle on and we'd just stay in today. We can sit in the library, if you want. I can read to you?"
"God, I really love you."
"I love you too," he pecked my lips.

I poked at the strawberries that were left in my bowl as I leaned my head against the Doctor's shoulder. I'm not even going to lie, I nearly ate the whole strawberry cheesecake all by myself, and the only thing that stopped me was the fact that I wanted to save some for later. The Doctor hadn't even noticed, and even if he did, he would have just laughed and kept reading.
"Doctor..." I murmured as I handed him my bowl.
"Hmm?" He looked down at me as he sat my book down.
"Thank you," I yawned, watching him eat the last few strawberries.
"For what?" He raised an eyebrow.
"For this. For how simplistic this is," I wrapped my arms around his waist and closed my eyes. "Usually you make a big deal out of today."
"I thought you liked it when I make a big deal," he chuckled softly as his arms pulled me close.
"I do, I really do...but this, just sitting here with you...I wouldn't trade it for the universe," I smiled softly. "You're everything I've ever wanted."
"That's odd. What kind of sensible person wants a mad man with a box?"
"Who said I was sensible?"
"Touché."
I laughed, "Have I told you I loved you today?"
"A few times, yeah," he grinned cheekily. "But saying it again wouldn't hurt anyone."
"I love you, Doctor," I murmured sweetly and kissed the back of his hand. "To the stars and the moon and everything in between."
"In relative terms, [Y/N], those distances aren't very far."
"You mustn't look at things so relatively, then."
"I can't help it. Relativity is in my nature."
"Hmm," I snuggled into his side.
"But, I love you more."
"Impossible."
"Nothing's impossible, just...slightly improbable."
"Then it's slightly improbable that you love me more."
He shook his head with a laugh, "No, I'm afraid not."
"Whatever you say," I yawned once again.
"Tired?"
"When am I not tired?"
"I honestly ask myself that constantly, my love. You're not one to turn down a chance to sleep."
"What sort of being does that? It's scandalous to do so."
"No, it's really not," he moved to stand up, making me groan slightly. "Come on, [Y/N], let's go to bed."
"I don't want to move."
"Well, then I suppose I'll be sleeping alone tonight..." his voice trailed off as he walked towards the corridor. "Unless, of course, you decide to change your mind..."
I opened an eye to see him leaning against the door frame with a knowing smirk playing at his lips. "I hate you sometimes."
"No you don't," he turned and made his way down the dimly lit corridor.
I grumbled as I stood, deciding to leave my book on the sofa as I followed after the Time Lord. I had no choice, really. After all, I've gone and fallen in love with a stubborn, but, I suppose, not so emotionless protagonist, haven't I?
