Chapter 1

Barney's POV

     I can't stand watching Robin continue to flirt with Nick in front of me. Not only is jealously flowing through me, but just pure disgust. Robin knows that our love was far more real than the play she's acting out with Nick.  In case you were wondering, the gang and I are at the bar like we are most nights. Robin gets up and tells us and Nick that she has to use the bathroom. A sly grin forms on my face and Ted shoots me a warning look that he knows what I'm about to do, but I brush it off. I'm determined to show Robin that she belongs with me and put this fool Nick in his place. "Nick, I need to talk to you privately." He gives me skeptical look but follows me over to the corner of the bar.

      Nick is the first one to speak. "If this is about Robin, let's face it Barney. You aren't able to give her what I can. That's why she's with me now and not you." I point a finger into his chest.  "I love everything about her, and I'm not a guy who says that lightly, I'm a guy who has faked love his entire life, I'm a guy who thought love was just something idiots felt, but this woman has a hold on my heart that I could not break if I wanted to. And there have been times when I wanted to. It has been overwhelming and humbling, and even painful at times, but I could not stop loving her any more than I could stop breathing. I'm hopelessly, irretrievably in love with her. More than she knows." 

      I turn and find Robin staring at me with her eyes bugging out of her head. I take a slow step towards her. "Robin, the last thing I want to do lose you again, but I mean every word of what I just said. Deep down you know that I'm the man for you, not Nick." She sighs. "I know, but so much happened between us. I don't know if things can be better this time." I grab a hold of her gently. "If you leave Nick now, you'll get the chance to find out. If you don't, you'll spend the rest of your days wondering what could have been. You and I certainly know the toll that takes on a person. So what do you say Robin? Will you give us a second chance?"

     She takes a step towards me. "I've missed you so much Barney." I lean my head into hers. "I've missed you too. Does that mean you're giving us a second chance?" She elbows me in the arm with a smile. "I'll take that as a yes. By the way, I know how to get rid of Nick. Watch this." We head back to the table together where Nick is snacking on some peanuts. "You can go Nick." Robin looks at me like I'm crazy and Nick looks simply shocked. "Wait what?" I wave Robin's hand in mine at him. "Robin and I are back together again and you are now her latest ex boyfriend." He pleads with Robin to say something but she stays silent. 

     "You know what you little whore, I don't need you anyway. You were just a way to pass the time. You're really stupid if you thought that I ever loved you." He gets up to leave. "Wait Nick, one more thing." He snarls at me. "What's that?" I swing my fist around and hit him in the jaw. "That. That's what you forgot. Never show your face again here pal." He holds his jaw and stumbles out the door without another word.

    Robin, Ted, Lily, and Marshall look at me in awe along with everyone else in the bar. Shortly after the awe wears off, everyone applauds me, which makes me feel pretty damn good about myself.
