Groggy
Chapter 4
Barney's POV
The next afternoon...
I'm trying to stay calm as Dr. Troy and the surgical team roll me towards the OR. I'm not keen on medical procedures. I'm very stubborn about even going to my yearly physicals. Ted literally shoves me out the door every year just to be sure I actually go to them. Dr. Troy and the team stop once we reach the authorized personnel point to give Robin and I a minute. "Robin, I know I try to act cool and tough all the time, but the truth is I'm terrified. I don't want to die on the table." Robin strokes my arm gently. "You're going to be fine Barney. I know it's scary, but I promise you I'll be the first person you see when you can up." She pecks me on the lips and calls me an idiot for worrying so much. That's the most common way shes says "I love you" to me.
6 hours later...
I wake up groggily in my room. It takes me a couple minutes to become aware of my surroundings and bring myself to look at Robin. When I do, my heart warms at the sight of her smile. God she's so beautiful and amazing. I really hope I don't mess things up and lose her again. If I do, I promise you I'll never love again for as long as I live.
Robin and I just spend some time simply talking and it's nice. Her and I are usually on the go constantly due to work and rarely have any time to just live in the moment. I never asked for this injury, but it could be a blessing in disguise. I'll probably have a couple weeks off so I spend time with Robin.
Ted, Lily, and Marshall come by shortly after with two pepperoni pizzas for us to eat for supper. The hospital food isn't terrible, but I prefer outside food any day. It's truly the little moments like this that I enjoy the most. The only downside is I can't wear suits right now.
