Chapter 24

Barney's POV 

 
The next day... 

    Robin and I gather what little strength we have and head down to the bar to meet the gang for an early supper and drinks at the bar. We both are taking the week off from work to get ourselves together a bit. After that week is up, we have to suck it up and face reality again, whether we like or not. The gang rushes in five minutes late. We get apologies from everyone as they sit down. Marshall is the first one to speak up. "Robin, Ted, you two look so worn down. What's going on?"

        Robin begins to choke up and I squeeze her hand and back to try to calm her down. "I'm going to have to do the talking for the both of us." I take a shaky breath. "Yesterday, Robin had to go to the hospital due to some excessive bleeding. Due to that excessive bleeding.... we lost the baby. Therefore, Robin had a miscarriage." Everyone looks at us in shock. No one knows what to say so instead they just try to comfort us to the best of their abilities. 

     Ted's POV

        I tell everyone to get up from the table and we all head to Tracy and I's. This is a serious matter and one that shouldn't be aired out in public. Barney and Robin deserve to grief in private with their closest friends. We're going to be here for them now more than ever. I can imagine the mental toll this is going to take on both of them, especially on Robin. It took her so long to finally want to have a kid and when she got pregnant, the universe up and decided that Robin's pregnancy should fail. Screw you universe. Barney and Robin deserved to have a child. 

        The biggest thing the gang and I fear is this breaking up Barney and Robin's marriage. Both of them are very fragile despite their tough exteriors. I've seen both of them try to run away from their problems. What makes this time any different?
