One More Stays, Two Have To Go
Chapter 18
Barney's POV
In the morning...
This is it. The moment we've all been dreading and couldn't sleep because of has arrived. We have to say goodbyes and part separate ways for awhile. I'm really worried about the toll this is going to take on Ted. Robin and I have each other and so do Lily and Marshall, but he's moving halfway across the country on his own because he can't bear to be around Robin and I for long periods of time anymore. Speaking of Ted, he comes running down the flight of stairs above us in a hurry. We all look up and watch them come to us.
Ted raises a hand to indicate that he needs a minute. He's clearly out of breath and needs to gather himself. "Guys I don't want you to be sad because I have some good news. I'm not moving to Chicago." Robin and I jump for joy. "Ted, what changed your mind?" He smiles at me. "Oh the usual. A girl, but this time, a girl I can see myself spending the rest of my life with." I slap his back. "We're so happy to hear that you're staying. Now it will be a little less lonely despite Marshall and Lily." My remark causes them both to frown and go silent.
Lily begins to cry. "Are we doing the right thing by leaving? I have a great job here and the house my dad grew up in could be ours. I'm just chasing an indefinite dream." Marshall comforts her. I hug her once Marshall lets go of her. "Lily, this is your dream. You're an amazing artist. For so long, you've been in the sidelines cheering everyone else on. It's your turn now. Ted, Robin, and I have no doubts whatsoever that Marshall and you won't come back for the holidays and such to visit. Trust me, this won't be the last time you see us. We love you guys too much not to bug you whenever we can." She laughs and hugs me.
Lily and Marshall pull us aside for individual goodbyes before one final group one. When we finally separate ourselves, the wholes in our hearts begin to form.
