"So why'd you decide to vacation here?" I asked as we walked.
"I don't know it was my moms idea." He replied.
"Makes sense." We walked down the beach and a giant wave rushed up over our bare feet. My legs started to tingle.
"Um I'll be right back. I left something on a little cove when I was swimming earlier. By the way if I don't come up I didn't drown!" I yelled as I ran into the water. I dove under the waves. Just in time. I had the horrid turquoise tail back. I swam to the cave and saw Ariel.
"Boy troubles?" She asked. I shook my head.
"Beach troubles." I mumbled.
"Oh. You ditched him, didn't you."
"Not exactly. I just made an excuse and dove under."
"Wouldn't that make him suspicious?"
"I'm on the swim team. I can hold my breath for 5 minutes without the tail."
"Oh also only saltwater triggers the transformation." She mentioned.
"Great I don't need to quit the team."
"Yep."
"I should head back."
"Ok bye. Wait, dry off under the dock."
"Ok" I dove under and swam to the dock. I pulled my self onto the sand and dried off. My lovely legs were back. I stood up and walked back to Luke.
"Did you get what you were looking for?"
"Nope it wasn't there."
"Oh." We continued walking down the beach and it seemed as both of us were avoiding the water. I looked out toward the water and saw Ariel. I could see her smiling and giving me a thumbs up. I just rolled my eyes and smiles back. I gave her her a signal with my hand to tell her to go under so Luke or no one sees her.
"Are you alright?" He asked me smiling and raising an eyebrow.
"Yep I am great. Just great." I was acting like a dork.
"Hey do you know about mermaidssss." I said extending the end.
"Yeah I guess. My mom is a Marie biologist and she did study mythology for a bit."
"I don't know but are there evil ones. You know, I'm just curious because I totally don't think that there is an evil mermaid trying to kill me or anything." I said doing a giant, dorky grin.
"Yeah. Why so specific?"
"No reason. Hey do you want to go swimming?" Oh my god what did I just do?!
"Nah. Do you wanna head home?"
"I'm gonna stay here a while."
"Ok bye."
"Bye Luke." As soon as he left I dove into the water and just sat under the pier.
"She's just acting....different."
"Luke, its Heidi. A 15 year old teenage girl. I mean, what if she likes you because honestly half the girls at school like you."
"Brian she probably doesn't like me."
"Do you like her?"
"No, but I do like Sydney Rydell. She's cute."
"She's popular. You're popular. No surprise there." Brian said with sarcasm in his voice. They sat in the end of the pier. I swam closer to them but my big clunky tail made a giant splash. They both looked under and of course, saw it.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think a mermaid was listening in on our conversation."
"Ya think? Hey isn't this Heidi's charm bracelet?" Brian jumped in and picked it up. Shoot!
"You don't think..."
"It's impossible. According to the books my mom read you have to be born or have mermaid blood in you. She did stick around after I went home though."
"Maybe it just fell off."
"Probably." I pretty much lost my mind because I grabbed the bracelet out of Brian's hand and swam off with it. My
tail popped out of the water and slapped him in the stomach. Oops.
"Let's go." They ran to the beach and stood there. I was so dead. Not thinking, I dried off under the dock and walked right past them.
"Hi." They just stared at me as I walked by. I noticed them looking at my wrist. Great.
"Your a mermaid?" Brian asked.
"No. Why?"
"Because a mermaid took that bracelet from me."
"I'm not one. But I do know one. She's gone. Went to Antarctica. Bye now." I walked home. Thankfully, being the middle child allows you to come up with lies and excuses in your free time. And that's that.

I might not update the third book because I'm lost for ideas :( so, if you have ideas just private message me. Thanks for reading and hoped you enjoyed.
