I swam up to the dock to meet Luke.
"I'm stuck like this." I pouted.
"No no no we are going to get you out of this. You'll be human again."
"Luke, the spell is permanent. This is my home now. Just deal with it, I'm a mermaid."
"Heidi we can get you out of this."
"No you can't! The most powerful mermaid put this, this curse on me! If it's permanent, it's permanent!" By then I was tears were running down my face.
"I gotta go. I have to meet my friend." I said with a sad smile.
"Bye Heidi."
"Bye Luke." I waved goodbye and dove under the waves. I knew he was trying to help but I was positive I'd never be human again.
"Hey." Oh no, not him! Don't get me wrong. I like Dylan it's just so much drama.
"Hi Dylan." I responded with a small wave.
"So I was wondering if maybe I could show you around the city....you know, since your...new."
"Sure. I guess." We swam together throughout the city. When the 'tour' ended he took me to this big ship. It was solid steel and was huge.
"This is a sunken ship that sunk around 1911. I come here a lot. It's a private place." We swam inside the old ship. In the diner there were skeletons with fancy ripped up clothing. So many skeletons! I found a handheld mirror so I picked it up and looked in it. I remember my mother told me stories about how mermaids used mirrors to check on human mers when I was a toddler. I remembered the spell and mumbled it under my breath.
"Mirror mirror in my hand, check the mer that is on land." A picture of my mother appeared. She was searching through spell books. Actually, Luke and Briar were too. I missed them so much. And my other friends that I possibly might not ever see again.
"Hey Dylan!" I yelled.
"Yeah?"
"So do they have things that are like, you know cell phones, the things humans use."
"Yeah do you wanna use mine?"
"Please!" I swam over and grabbed his cell phone, or should I say shell phone. I swam over to the farthest table.
"Hello this is Amanda."
"Mom! Hi can you check my phone."
"You got 5 texts from Cecilia, 16 from Alex, and 2 from Ada."
"Read em!"
"I can't. I'll have Briar bring it to the beach."
"K love you. Bye."
"Love you too bye." Why'd my mom blow me off so quickly? Something is up. I know there is. Suddenly it rung again.
"Hello." I said desperately.
"Yeah Heidi I'll be down to the beach in 10 minutes. Be there."
"Why is it taking 10 minutes to walk across the street?"
"Makeup! Duh!"
"Yeah. Bye." I hung up and gave the phone back to Dylan.
"How do you store it?"
"It disappears." The phone disappeared into thin air.
"I need to go. Gotta meet my friend."
"Briar?" He said smirking.
"Are you telepathic?!" I asked excitedly.
"It was on speaker."
"Oh." We swam out of the ship wreck and to the beach.
"You're late." She hissed.
"Well I'm sorry but I had to swim from a shipwreck to get here and you walked across the street!" I sneered.
"Man mermaids are sassy." She said smiling. She handed me the phone and I face timed Cecilia.
"How's it going Heidi. Also I have Mrs. Frendale!"
"To bad. Do you know who I have?"
"You have Mrs. Pipe. We only have 4 classes together."
"How do you know anyway we live in separate states. Eh, at least I got a nice teacher. Except I might not even make it to 10th grade." I mumbled.
"What, why?!" I showed her the tail.
"Ohh. You know Lexi is a mermaid."
"I know. And you and Alex are superheroes. We've been through this." I sighed.
"I know. So meet any cute mer guys." Cecilia said raising her eyebrows.
"Yes. But I like Luke."
"Where is that guy anyway?" She asked.
"He's staying with us at our vacation home. Down the hall from my room."
"No!" She exclaimed smiling.
"Yes and I gotta go. Bye superhero."
"Bye mermaid." I handed my phone back to Briar.
"Thanks."
"Bye." She left and I swam back to where Dylan was.
"So your human?" He said smirking.
"No."
"How do you know humans?"
"I don't know it just...happened." I shrugged at my comment.
"So who is Luke?"
"A friend."
"Come on let's go."
"I'll meet you at the ship I need to do something." He dove back under and I swam toward he shore. I sat under the dock and was thinking about how I'd get my mothers attention if I did get home.
"How's being a mermaid going for ya?" Someone scoffed.
"Can you just leave me alone."
"I mean I could but why would I want to?" Now she's making tacky song references.
"Because I don't want to be bothered."
"Good luck with your new fins. You'll need it since you'll have them for the rest of your life. Bye fish." Monica walked off. How can she walk in sand with heels without breaking her ankles? That little witch gets on my nerves so much. I hate her. HATE HER. She turned around.
"And one more thing, don't bother trying to get home because you never will." And with that she walked off.
Hey guys! Thanks for reading my chapter. The picture at the top is a photo of Heidi(right) and Briar(left). I'm gonna redraw a picture of Luke because the first one is terrible.
