The Mysteries Of Swan Cove

Chapter 19

I know this is out of the norm but this is a quick author note before the chapter. So I promise I'll add a pic on this chapter and I have officially done it. I deleted former book 3 of Swan Cove. This is now officially the third book. It goes: The Secrets of Swan Cove, Return to Swan Cove, The Mysteries of Swan Cove, and there will be a fourth book (coming soon). Ok I hope you enjoy the chapter and let's get started!

Last night when I came home I was greeted by my family, Luke, and Briar. My dad left because of "classified police business" which is probably hanging out with his friends at the closest tavern on a Friday night. I woke up this morning and stumbled down stairs. I still haven't gotten used to walking, knowing I haven't been on land and walking for 10 days.
"So sleeping beauty finally woke up." Said Luke.
"Time check." I moaned.
"12:30"
"What?! The latest I have ever slept to was 8:30." I exclaimed.
"Surprisingly you woke up before I did." Said Briar. She is known to sleep really late. I yawned and plopped down on the sofa.
"Your mom told me to tell you that she took Hannah and Syrena somewhere out of town. They'll be gone all day." Luke told me.
"Great now I have to cook for myself." I walked over to the kitchen and looked in the fridge. Cookie dough. I rolled them into balls and then I popped them in the oven. Twenty minutes later I got them out and ate one. The day was normal. We watched TV and did nothing else. When 10:00 pm came around we all went to sleep. At midnight I woke up. I needed to go swimming. I slipped out of bed a sneaked out to the beach. I sat in the sand for a few minutes. I heard someone fighting off in the distance.
"You better do it."
"But I can't do it! It's mean and she did nothing."
"You let her get away, you fix it."
"Fine. You owe me though. And don't touch her."
"Deal now DO IT." I heard someone walking. I quickly dove under the dock. If this person saw me I think I'd be dead.
"Oh my gosh, Heidi! Where'd you go last night? I was looking for you."
"Hi Brynn." I got out of the water and walked over to her.
"I'm sorry." She said and socked me in the nose. I know it wasn't her fault, like, she's being forced to it seems.
"So why are you doing this exactly?" I asked.
"Only to save my mom. I'm working for the person who took her hostage, I guess."
"Who?"
"Can't say." We were fighting each other she got knocked out. Not by me but she just passed out.
"I'm just gonna take care of this. Pathetic." I knew that voice. That was my voice. And that translates to Monica, my evil clone.
"Looks like someone is back on her feet again."
"Shut up."  She threw her high heel at me. I looked at her funny. She was an evil mermaid yet her only weapon is a shoe. She came at me and tried to punch me. We were in a fist fight. After about 10 minutes she fell. She was unconscious. I looked up and saw Luke with Moby Dick in his hand.
"Maybe this book can be used as a weapon. Why'd you sneak out?"
"I don't know. I couldn't sleep. How'd you know I was here."
"I woke up and heard screaming."
"That wasn't me. I think I broke her nose. And I think she broke mine. Ow, my nose."  Luke helped me up off the ground.
"Wait. When she wakes back up."
"She's not gonna wake up. The eclipse is over and her mission failed. If you were still a mermaid it would be an entirely different story." He laughed.
"What about Brynn?" I asked. He looked at me confused.
"She was my friend, I guess and her mom was taken hostage probably by Monica and she was forced to work for her or her mom would get it." I said.
"She's probably keeping her in this small lagoon place."
"I know where that is!" I yelled. Brynn woke up.
"Where what is?" She groaned.
"What happened to her?" She said gesturing toward Monica.
"She's technically dead. I think."
"Do you know where my mom is?"
"Actually, I do." We all dove into the water and I lead them to the lagoon. Brynn got out and was looking for her. She still had her tail.
"Why don't you just transform into a human."
"Oh I can't. It is only if Monica is around. I'm a full on mermaid." We heard a muffled scream. We followed the sound. Under the water there was a hidden cave that we swam into. There tied to a rock was a young women with the same tail as Brynn. Her blonde curls were flowing freely around her face. She was cut and browsed and gagged. Her tear stained face and bloodshot blue eyes were staring at us three like we were the best things in the entire ocean.
"Mom!" Brynn swam over and untied her and took the gag out.
"Oh honey, I'm glad your alright." She hugged Brynn.
"Thank you." She mouthed to us. We nodded as if we were saying "your welcome".
"Thanks guys for helping me. And Heidi, sorry for kind of beating you up."
"It's fine. My sister and I do it to each other a lot." We all swam back to the main part of the ocean. Brynn and her mom went back to their house and Luke and I went back to shore.
"Wait Heidi! Maybe even after your vacation we can still hang out?"
"Definitely." We waved good bye to each other and each swam back to where we needed to go. Luke and I dried off and went back home.
"I'm exhausted." I said.
"Me too. I need sleep." We were starting to walk back to the beach house when Luke stopped me.
"What's wrong?"
"I know that if I don't do this now I'll never be able to do it."
"What?" He grabbed me and pulled me close to him. Out of nowhere he kissed me. I was shocked. The most popular guy at our school likes me. Likes me. I was so excited. I didn't fight back. I just gave in and kissed him back. To be honest, this wasn't how I imagined my first kiss. Heck, I just fought off power hungry mermaid (with the help of to fantastic merpeople) and I look like a mess. Black eye, bloody lip, possibly broken nose. Charming. Once we stopped we just smiled and looked at each other with surprise.
"Wow." We said in unison.
"That was amazing." I said smiling.
"Was that....I'm sorry."
"It's fine. I actually liked it." I said sheepishly. Suddenly, we cracked up laughing.
"Let's go swimming."
"Race ya." We dove in like nothing mattered. This vacation was by far, was the best vacation I have ever had. A vacation that lead to pretty awesome things. A vacation that made me wonder what would come in the future. A vacation that lead me to figure out the mysteries of swan cove.

I was watching Psych about 4 weeks ago (before they took it off Netflix😫😠) and I just finished the episode where Shawn and Jules kissed and started dating. The song "Such a Night" by Elvis Presley was playing and that gave me inspiration for this chapter. So imagine that song while reading that part. Now, the picture at the top (I didn't draw it I just found it on google) is of Luke and Heidi. I really liked the picture so I just decided it should be of Luke and Heidi. So I think this is it.
