I swam to the cave to face an angry and annoyed Ariel.
"Why were you 90 minutes late?" She asked.
"Ok so you know that guy Luke I like..."
"Yeah, so?"
"Turns out that he is a merman and he moved to Florida from the ocean and then h-" Ariel cut me off and covered my mouth with her palm.
"I get your point. No need to babble on." She said smiling.
"Let's go to my house. I'm cold." I groaned. Ariel giggled and motioned me to follow her. Once we got to shore we dried off and had our legs back. I saw Luke coming.
"Hey Ariel start heading to my house I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Fine but don't leave me hangin'." She said walking away. Luke sat under the dock and I kneeled on the sand. Let's just say sand may seem nice on your feet but kills your knees.
"What were you doin'?" I asked.
"Practicing my powers. Apparently to pass mer school you have to be able to control your powers. We only have 2 weeks to practice which is not enough time."
"Mermaids and mermen have powers? Cool!"
"Only mermen. It's weird."
"So H2O and Mako Mermaids are so inaccurate." I said jokingly.
"Basically, yeah. Hey do you want to go to this cool cave. It's not that far."
"No I'm good." I replied.
"Ok wanna walk home with me."
"No I'm going to stay here for a bit."
"Bye Heidi."
"Bye Luke." About 2 hours (yeah I know it's forever) after he left I played with my bracelet.
"Ariel come out from behind the bush. I know you're here." She sighed and trudged out.
"How'd you know?" She mumbled.
"I could here the bush ruffling." I said.
"Want to go to the cave." She said excitingly. I dove into the water. I had the turquoise tail back. As we were swimming I stopped.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"8:02, why?"
"Shoot! I needed to meet Luke 2 minutes ago!" I rushed back to shore and saw Luke waiting on the dock. He was sitting in the edge with his legs hanging over. I creeped out of the water and got my legs back. I came up behind him.
"Sorry I'm 10 minutes late. I lost track of time." I sat next to Luke on the dock.
"That's alright. It just gave me extra time to practice." He said smiling at me. He ruffled his blond hair and sighed.
"Do you wanna walk along the beach?" He asked.
"Sure." We stood up. I started walking but knowing how clumsy I am I tripped and fell smack into the water. I was toast. 4,3,2,1 and I had a long turquoise tail. All I saw was Luke's wide blue eyes staring at me.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.
"I just didn't trust you enough. We are friends just not best friends and I was scared of what would happen." I mumbled.
"But you can. What would I do, tell someone?! I'd basically be betraying every mer out there!"
"I'm sorry I was just scared!" I yelled through tears.
"Bye,Heidi." He said angrily as he walked away. I just sat there and let my tears run freely down my face. I know that I messed up. I messed up big time.
"What's wrong?" Ariel asked.
"I mes-messed u-u-up. B-ad-adllllllyyyy!" I coughed out.
"How?"
"I-I didn't tr-trust Lu-Luke an-an-and he f-f-oun-oun-d out!" I sputtered through my sobbing.
"Oh. Here let's get you home. Maybe you can stay the night at my house. Daniel has been on vacation in California for the past 2 days." I nodded as I continued to cry. I got my legs back and walked next to Ariel.
"Let me tell you one thing:he'll get over it. I have worked with this type of stuff before. They never stay mad at you if they really like you." We walked into my house and my sisters, mom, dad, and Mrs. Montgomery are all in town. It was just Ariel, Luke, and I. I let out a bunch more sobs and Ariel made me some tea. According to her she is a professional at making tea. That was true. Just enough sugar to make it blend nicely. After about half and hour of crying I stopped. We were watching Psych on Netflix. I just couldn't help myself from laughing. It was the world most impossible task. My long brown hair was wet and stringy from being wet and my face was splotchy from crying. My eyes were red and bloodshot and my shirt was a bit wet from tears running on them. Ariel was great at cheering me up. It was oddly quiet upstairs.
"Have you noticed it's been awfully quiet upstairs?"
"Yeah do you think we should check it out?" I just shrugged. If Luke was up there I didn't want to make him even more angry. Before I knew it Ariel and I were walking upstairs. We opened the door and no one was in there. I saw the letter from Jaelyn out on the dresser and then it hit me. Luke was no longer staying with us. In fact, he was no longer on land but was on his way to Ireland.
Dun dun dun! Cliffhanger! I hope you enjoyed the chapter and thanks for reading!
