We prepped the next three days before the eclipse. Mainly Luke,Briar, and I coming up with plans. My mom locked herself in her room and watched TV and read. I had to use my skills from FACS to cook all three meals. Though half of those we just went to the cafe or starved. So yeah. Finally the night came. The night where we had to block doors and close shades and blinds. We passed time by watching TV, Briar and I singing and dancing, drawing, and other stuff. Of course, Luke was totally overdosing on salt. He ate two whole boxes of Morton's salt. I looked out the window and saw a women running toward the beach. Typical.
"Briar watch Luke as much as you shop."
"Yep." I chased my mom and grabbed her just in time. She struggled to get free but I wouldn't let her. Her blonde curls slapped my face and her eyes went from blue to an ocean aqua color. Once we got to the house I locked the door and looked around.
"Where's Luke?" I asked with worry in my voice.
"He right he-" Briar looked at me wide eyed. I saw the a splash in the water and a teal tail. Great, just great.
"I told to watch him!" I groaned.
"Well I had ten minutes to order twenty things or I wouldn't get the discount!" I rolled my eyes.
"At least help me with my mom then."
"What about Luke."
"I'm not going swimming. Nuh-uh, no way. It's too cold outside."
"It's 65 degrees."
"Exactly." I thought of stuff that could possibly lure Luke back.
"Briar we are going to the pier." She pouted.
"I don't wanna!" She whined like a three year old.
"You caused this to happen, you fix it."
"Who's gonna watch your mom."
Knock knock knock
"She is!" I said pointing at Ariel.
"Briar,Ariel. Ariel,Briar. Now off we go." I dragged Briar to the pier and sat on the edge.
"Now we wait."
"Hey, I'm not sure how they did it and in Maryland but you are now a Flordian. We sprung into action."
"I know. But for this plan to work just follow me." She sighed and nodded, agreeing to my awful plan. About 20 minutes later I heard a voice.
"You know the waters nice."
"I know but I'm not going swimming Luke." I said staring off toward the horizon.
"Heidi this is where you do something." Whispered Briar. I shushed her and counted down from three o my fingers. 3,2,1 Now!
We yanked him onto shore from the shallow waters and dragged him back to the house. We heard banging on a door once we got inside. I rushed upstairs and opened the door to...my room? Out stumbled Ariel. Her headband was missing and her wavy, brown hair was a tangled mess. She had a black eyes and scratch marks on her arms and legs.
"Your mother is a psychopath! She locked me in here and ran off. I think she's in the basement. This eclipse did quite a number on her." I heard banging on the basement door. It wasn't like trying to get out but like trying to break a door off its hinges. I ran downstairs and my mom was banging on the door.
"What time is it?" I asked Briar.
"2:26"
"You know the effects wear off in four minutes. Your lucky you got Luke because if he was in the water when it ended he'd be a fish forever." Said Ariel.
"Ok four minutes. We can do this."
"Actually I need to head home. My mom is locked in her room and I need to keep it that way so...bye!" She yelled and slammed the door behind her. After she the four minutes passed my mom collapsed by the door.
"What happened?" She groaned.
"Well Mrs. Plinoth you went crazy." Said Briar. She moaned and shuffled up the steps.
"I'm exhausted. Wait why my base broken?"
"Well you did lock Ariel in my room. And possibly had a fist fight with her."
"I need to apologize."
"Oh she didn't care. Her mom is like that too." My mom didn't respond. She trudged up the steps to her room and plopped onto her bed. Every one went to sleep. And let's just say, it wasn't exhausting just for the mers.

Thank you for reading! The picture above is of Luke. It's not that good because I did this in 5 minutes and I can't draw guy hair :(. Also, comment if you want me to draw mermaid Luke and Heidi 😏. Make sure to keep reading!
