I just stand there pulling my mask of no emotions into place. He could kill me right now if he wanted to. He could insert his thumbs into my eye sockets. He could rip my throat open. He could- my thoughts are split into halves when a certain laugh floats into my ear drums.
"No patient 0600 I don't like what I see. Please do not talk to me in that way or I can have security show you the same amount of respect you showed me."
I threaten. Apparently it shuts him right up until he slowly begins to laugh again.
"Oh I like this one"
His laugh was growing, but it's not his usual laugh...no I'm not given the mercy of a normal laugh. It's his signature laugh the one he does before he kills people. He lunges at me and bites the air inches from my face. Batman handles him with a little bit of struggle.
"Take him to cell 00113" the woman in front of the desk tells The Dark Knight.
With a grunt Batman pulls the Joker into another hallway and the door shuts behind them.
"Well Dr. Quinnzel that's the most he has responded to our shrinks without breaking their sanity. Seems like you have the magic touch golden girl." The woman behind the desk tells me and from what I gather it seems sincere.
"I'm Veronica. Veronica Bayfield. Please if you need anything just ask."
Veronica tells me with actual emotion in her voice. I smile at her and remember what I was here for.
"Ummm Veronica where is Dr.Arkham's office?"
She laughs at herself and I'm guessing it's because she forgot to answer my question.
"Down the hall two rights and your there. Room 100 you can't miss it."
I walk through the door and turn right immediately. Another right and I come face to face with a dead end and a solid steel door with a sign. Room 100. I knock lightly and I suppose he can't hear me so I know a little bit louder. I hear a deep voice from within the door, but I can't make out what it's saying. A few seconds later a man comes to the door and greets me. He was tall, with brown hair that was naturally streaked with silver. He may have been on this earth a longer time than me, but that didn't make his green eyes any less bright. His unimpressed expression changed when he saw me. His lips formed a warm smile and he ushered me in.
"Hello Dr.Quinnzel. What a pleasure to meet you I'm Dr.Arkham and if you will top dog in this institution. You will follow every rule precisely as written in the physiatrist handbook. If you are going to try anything funny you better pray to god I don't find out. If you follow the rules we will get along just fine. Please don't refrain from asking questions because curiosity may have killed the cat, but as least it died with answers"
I was pulled into a medium sized room with a large window on the back wall. Dr.Arkham sure had a funny way of arranging things. He had his desk facing the door and his back against the window. He had a counter with a coffee maker, sink, and mini fridge on the left side of the room and a grey couch to the right side. His walls were grey and I don't see a splash of color besides the dark wood desk. This place is such a drag. That probably explains why Veronica was so emotionally drained.
"Thank you Dr.Arkham I am sure I will love it here. I came here for my new patients"
Dr.Arkham chuckled lightly and shakes his head.
"They did say you were an over achiever. I have two folders on the desk for you please handle the patients with caution. So your first patient is Catwoman who has a fetish for cats. Last time she somehow clawed her psychiatrists eyes out. Poor soul thought the cat actually loved him. What a shame. Anyways your other patient is Edward Nygma please handle him in your own way, but just fyi he will be asking a lot of riddles."
I smile at him and nod my head. Walking over to his desk I see the files and a key with a keychain that says number 266.
"That's your office key. Enjoy!" He cheerfully pushes me out the door even though I had questions and slams it in my face. I start to walk to room 266 and grab my key. I slide it into the slot and twist the doornob open. I look around in amazement
at how impossibly boring this room is. I'll have to ask about that. Ok let's get started. Here is a long chapter for the few people reading this book. I want to thank you for giving this book a try!
