I awkwardly sat with Yixing, enjoying my son cheering from the dock every time he caught a fish.
After a couple of hours, CJ hooked a really big fish and ran all the way from the dock to the back steps of Dad's house.
"Mom! Look! It's the biggest fish I've ever seen!!!" CJ yelled carrying a fish he could barely hold up. "Oh my God. That's gotta be a Kutra record." I laughed, unhooking the fish.
Dad walked back to the house. "I'm gonna get that mounted and make it your gift for the day." My father said, taking the monstrous fish from fish from CJ.
We all walked back inside and listened to Dad tell fishing stories while putting the fish in a cooler.
"I remember the first time I took Ara fishing with me and Shindo-" "Dad. No." "She was 4 and Shindo was 6. Ara was playing in the water while I got the boat ready. After we got the boat out in the water, Ara held her hands behind her back the entire time. I asked her if she wanted to hold a rod and she shook her head. Shindo had hooked a really big fish...I mean huge. It was bending his rod into an acute angle and everything. You wanna know what Ara does?...She throws a toad on her brother, making him freak out, let go of his rod and lose the fish along with his rod." My dad laughed as I covered my face.
I hated admitting to people that I used to be such a brat even though it was normal for kids to be like that.
Yixing and CJ laughed along with Dad and I just sat there with my arms crossed.
"Is that why you and uncle Shindo don't get along Ma?" "Among other things." I said, thinking about the long term rivalry I had with my brother.
"They never got along...From the moment I brought your mom home, Shindo didn't want anything to do with her. I have that day on film. Your grandma walked into his room, holding Ara and asked him if he wanted to meet his new baby sister. He jumped up and was so excited. I'd never seen a happier 3 year old. He looks at her and squints really hard...then Ara sneezed in his face and he looks up and his mother and says 'Take. Her. Back.' I'd like to think y'all get along pretty well now though." Dad laughed and laughed and laughed. "Keep thinking that Dad. He still brings up how much of an over achiever I was in school." "Not your fault you were more concerned with school than getting someone to love you." Dad laughed.
The doorbell to my father's house rang. "Oh! That's someone special I want yall to meet! Be right back!" My dad cheered, leaving to the living room. "Someone special?" CJ cocked his eyebrow, looking to me for an answer. "Don't ask me. I've been with that man 23 out of 24 years of my life and have never had him figured out at all."
My dad came back into the kitchen with Shindo behind him. "I already know Shindo...Unfortunately." I rolled my eyes at my brother. "Shut up brat." "Don't make me sneeze on you!" I said, reffrencing ourfirst meeting as siblings.
An older woman walked into the kitchen and smiled at me. "You weren't kidding David. It's like they're blood." She smiled sweetly. "Dad...there is a woman in your kitchen." I said in shock. "This is Gukju...My girlfriend." My dad said nervously, taking this woman's hand and smiling hopefully at me. "Girlfriend?...Well...That was unexpected..."
I finally have the willpower (and revisions) to update a little bit. Yay!!!
I mean it when I say school's got me fucked up.
Now if you'll excuse me...I need to make a power point over different types of hotels and make a poster and write a speech over Robber Barons vs Captains of Industry during the Industrial Revolution. (hehe fml)
