We all sat outside and talked about whatever came to CJ's mind.
"Grandpa, how long were you and Grandma married?" CJ asked my dad. "We were married for 27 years." My dad said happily. "That's a long time. How'd y'all meet?" Yixing asked, showing interest in my family. "Ara's mom and I met in school...It was our first year of high school and we were in the same class. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her...She didn't think I was so charming though...She didn't agree to go on a date with me until after our graduation ceremony. After that, she was all mine." My dad smiled. Thinking about my mom made me smile too.
"What was Grandma like?" CJ asked. "She was a lot like Ara...Smart, cunning, sarcastic, sweet, supportive, loving, family meant the world to her. She had a low tolerance for people not listening to her also." My dad smiled at me and rubbed my back.
"How'd you find Mom?" CJ asked. "One day, I was home alone. Your grandma and Shindo had left to visit your great grandma who really really didn't like me. I heard loud banging on the front door and went to see who was knocking on my door at 11 oclock at night. When I open the door, nobody is there but I hear this low whining...I look down and there's a picnic basket with a baby...no older than a few months...I would've kept it but I couldn't just be like 'Look honey! We have another kid!' when grandma and Shindo got home...So I took her to an orphanage and explained what happened. They took this kid, gave her a check up, named her and thanked me for being a good person. Then-" "What does any of this have to do with Mom?" CJ complained. "Trust me...It has everything to do with her. Maybe a year after that happened, me and Grandma decided we wanted another kid...we tried and tried but didn't have any luck. We decided to adopt...We went to the same orphanage I took that baby to two years ago and I asked about a baby girl named Ara. They said she hadn't been adopted and took me to her immediately. There she was. Precious two year old Ara, reading a book upsidedown in her crib while all the other toddlers were napping. We had to have her." My father told us my favorite story.
It was my favorite because you couldn't make something like that up. He had the chance to take me in when I was in that basket but he didn't...Two years later he adopts me. There's a sense of irony in the story that made me wanna listen to that story over and over again.
"I love you dad." I said hugging my father. "I love you too, you little basket baby." My father joked. So that was a slightly more serious chapter...idk...I liked it.
