Audrey sat in the back seat and wondered if she’d made a mistake. They seemed incredibly great to hang around, but, a prison? Was it worth it? What if she didn’t even like them? She’d given up food and supplies for this? She didn’t like the thought of being a hog, but as the sun came closer and closer to setting, she had to wonder if her desperation for not wanting to being alone anymore made her decide something stupid. Stupid enough to waste ALL her supplies.
Rick was obviously hoping she wasn’t a spy or anything Daryl suspected she could be. So far, it was worth it. They had boxes full of food, seasonings, medical supplies and knives with some guns and ammunition.
They drove up and into the prison. Carol, a widow and ex-mother ran over to the inner gate, opened it and closed it after Daryl and Rick drove in. She stopped at the motorcycle and was talking to Daryl when the rest of them came out. Beth was still holding the child who was still crying. Carl hopped out of his seat with some formula and went with Beth back inside.
Audrey was feeling a little shy but got out after Maggie and just stood next to the car as the others ransacked it.
“Where’d all this come from?!” Carol asked in delight.
Michonne looked at the newcomer with a harsh glare. A suspicion was already in her about Audrey. She looked to Rick for any sort of word or explanation on the subject of Audrey, a stranger, standing on their property. Hershel took a second to view the newcomer, and so did Carol.
“Who’s this?” She asked as she set down a box she was looking through.
“Everyone, this is Audrey.” Rick looked to her.
“Audrey Holly.” She held her head down then looked around. “There’s nothing more to say except, if it’s ok with you, I’m on trial to stay here.”
Carol was skeptical but still felt bad for her.
“I’ll show you to the cells. You can pick your bunk.”
Audrey turned to her and smiled. She went back and picked up a box and helped Carol bring some stuff in.
“Just so you know, I’m not usually this…way. I’m fun when you get to know me. I think. And I know this is sudden and all, but, thanks.” She said to Carol.
“I hope you come to think of this place as home.” Carol said plainly.
Audrey smiled and nodded. “So, what’s your name?”
“Carol Peletier.” She answered holding out a hand to shake.
Outside, Rick went to the back and looked at some of the things in the boxes.
“No doubt she has some good stuff but was it a good idea bringin’ her here?” Daryl walked over and asked as he looked through the medical supplies.
“That’s why this is a trial for her. She has what we need, and I’m not a bandit. I’ll get whatever I can but at least be fair about it.”
Daryl nodded a bit and picked up some of the stuff then swaggered back inside the prison. Michonne came over next and looked at Rick.
“I know what you’re gonna say.”
“What?” She asked calmly.
