I sat strapped to the arms and base of the chair the Governor had dragged me to. The door to the small room opened and he walked in.
I stared at him, defiant and disgusted. My heart pounded but I didn’t let on. I just stared at the shadowed face and waited for him to say something. All he did was smile.
“Does she know I’m here? Or did I kill her in the blasts?”
“She was in town when you went on your little, bombing. And she knows.” He walked over to a table and leaned on it. “But there are some things, I want to know. Like how Rick’s group has been survivin’ so long after the few spats we’ve had.” He paused a second. “Now I know where my grenades went. That was you who took em’ right?”
I just looked at him.
“You only used 6. Does Rick have the rest?” He said in a slow voice.
When I didn’t respond, he laughed. “Of course he does.” He said. Then he looked at me with his eye and glared at me with evil. “If you won’t talk to me, then I’ll talk to you. Tell you all I do know.”
I squinted a bit at him, and then stayed quiet.
He started to walk over to me which made my heart beat faster. “You were in your second year of college, abnormally happy, but with few male friends. 22 and never had a boyfriend in all those years. You never wanted to be alone, your mother left when you were 13, and you were left in the tender love and care of your rich father.”
All these things he was saying were true. I glared up at him with as much indifference as I could muster. “So?”
“You wanna tell me about your father? Why you never had a boyfriend? Why your mother left? Why you never wanted to be alone?”
I looked past him and he leaned down in my face. I looked away from him as much as I could.
“Did your rich drug usin’ daddy ever touch you Audrey?” The Governor breathed out.
My mind started to hurt. “No.” I said defiantly.
“Yes. He did.” The Governor smiled.
I glared up at him and started to breathe a bit harder.
“Yes. Your sister’s been most forth comin’.”
“Then you should know he never touched me…” I frowned.
“Not more than a certain point, thanks to your sister. 30 years old, and stayed at home until the year before you left for college. That year alone with him. Were you scared?”
“I learned to stick up for myself!” I yelled at him. “Gah!” I breathed in. “What does this matter to you? Going to keep talking about this crap until I break? Tell my sister, the next time I see her, I’m going to kill her.”
“She’s with me, and I take care of my people. If you’re not gonna oblige and help my people, I can’t guarantee you’re safety.” The Governor, still in my face, looked into my eyes.
Yes, my sister was with the Governor, and I hated her. She knew I was alone and here, in Woodbury, and she didn’t care.
