My eyes went wide with fear. I just stared into his souless yellow eyes as I hung there, struggling to keep myself up.

The man stroked his beard and began to look around the cliffs. "Hmm... Now where is he? He should show up eventually.."

My arms were getting tired, I tried pulling myself up, but that old man stepped on my head to keep me down. I scoffed and continued to hang there, hoping that I wouldn't fall.

"Im right here!"

Vanitas suddenly appeared right beside this old man. I had no idea where he came from, but I saw Vanitas push the man away and he helped me back onto the cliff. This man tried coming for Vanitas, trying to prevent him from saving me. Vanitas took no hesitation to pick me up and run off to the side of safety before the man even reached him. Vanitas gently placed me on the ground before turning and facing the man, taking out his sword and holding it toward him.

"Enough is enough." Said Vanitas in a deep voice. "She has nothing to do with this. Let her go."

The man gave me this mischievous smile and stroked his beard gently with his other arm behind his back. "Let her go? You seem to have something for her. Why would I waste this opportunity?"

Vanitas scoffed and shook his head. "I don't care about her at all. It's just pointless to harm or kill innocent civilians correct?"

"I don't care about her at all"

Those words stung me like a bee. They hurt. To be honest I thought he did care about me but... Was it all an act? Or was he just saying that to the old man to throw him off?

The man laughed and placed both of his hands behind his back. "If that's what you believe."

"I'm not fucking around, Xehanort! Get out of here! There's nothing for you here." Vanitas growled. He seem pissed off at this moment. I could understand why though. This Xehanort guy made him stab some innocent kid. Was there anything I could do?

I couldn't use magic. Or wield a sword. Since I couldn't use magic however, maybe I could at least buy Vanitas some time to escape. After all magic didn't seem to harm me, and I would assume Xehanort used magic. Besides he was old... Right? I'm sure I could at least kick his balls and run off.

So I reacted quickly. I shoved Vanitas off to the side and ran toward Xehanort. He seemed too shocked to move in time. I did kick his balls, and he screamed out and fell to the ground.

I looked to Vanitas and grinned. "Well? What are you waiting for?"

Vanitas smirked but at the same time, tried not to look amused. "Well come on then" He said before quickly picking me up and running away out of Xehanorts sight. I heard him yell but it was nothing now considering Vanitas ran all the way back to town and never turned back.

We stopped in front of Merlin's house, and Vanitas put me down. We looked at each other for a while, before I finally just bursted out laughing. Vanitas gave me a disgusted look.

"What are you laughing about?" He demanded an answer.

I kept laughing for a few more seconds before brushing hair out of my eyes. "Is that all it takes? Just a kick to escape?"

Vanitas chuckled a bit and crossed his arms. "It's not like he can do anything. You don't use magic. So his magic is nothing to you."

"I knew it!" I exclaimed, fist pumping the air. "So I can kick anyone's balls and get away with it?"

Vanitas rolled his eyes. "No. They can still use physical weapons on you."

I pouted and stomped my foot. "Well darn." I said, huffing and crossing my arms. "And here I thought I was invincible."

Scoffing, Vanitas patted my head gently and left his hand at the top of my head. "Nice try little girl. Now come on, it's late and you should head back in."

At that moment, I just remembered why I even went out in the first place. "They want to hurt you!" I blurted out suddenly.

Vanitas took his hand off my head and looked at me. "Hurt me? Who? What?"

I hung my head and frowned. "The whole reason I was out was so I could find you. Aerith and everyone else wants to kick you out and make you go back to your own world... I came out to find you and warn you."

I heard Vanitas grumble under his breathe as he turned his head to the side, looking down at the ground. "Of course they would do that." He muttered.

I frowned and tugged at his sleeve gently. "What if you explain your side of the story to them?"

Vanitas' head jerked toward me. "Are you crazy?! And get myself killed?"

I rolled my eyes at him and placed my hands in my hips. "Fine. I'll come with you."

Vanitas looked at me for a second. Then his eyes narrowed toward the door behind me. "They are in there?" He asked.

I nodded, then placed my hand on the door handle. "Are you prepared?"

Vanitas cracked his knuckles and neck. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot impatiently, and also avoided looking me in the eye. I knew he was nervous and scared, but I didn't want him to be. I wanted to be there and assure him it wasn't fair of Leon and everyone to not know the full story.

I gently grabbed his hand. "It's alright." I assured him. "I'll be there"

His cheeks were a little pink and he pulled his hand away. Vanitas turned his back to me and coughed. "Let's just go" he said coldy before stomping over to the door and opening it. I smiled slightly and followed.

"What are YOU doing here?!" I heard Aeriths distressed voice.

When I walked in Aerith had wide, scared eyes. Leon was instantly on his feet and had his gunblade out, pointing it at Vanitas in aggression.

Vanitas held up his hand to show he didn't have any weapons. "I come in peace" he said.

Leon saw me and his face turned white. "Zara stay away from him!" He cried out.
I shook my head and stood beside Vanitas. "He just wants to talk" I assured him. "Please hear him out"

I had to assume since I was there, Leon did not attack. Cid was glaring coldy at Vanitas while Yuffie stood beside him with her weapon in hand. The whole group was on edge, staring at Vanitas with cold eyes as he explained his story. But as he was explaining calmly, Aerith was the first to calm down and now watch him with gentle and understanding eyes.

Vanitas frowned as he was telling the end of his story. He looked down and I could tell he was blinking back tears. "I didn't mean to kill him..." Vanitas said regretfully. "I tried so hard not to. But that Xehanort guy made me do it... Ventus was my friend. I didn't do it on purpose"

Leon scoffed and took a threatening step forward. "Likely story" he said. "You're lying!" He was ready to charge forward until Aerith grabbed his arm saying;

"His eyes aren't lying!"

"Let go of me!" Leon shoved Aerith to the side and she flew to the ground. Aerith was screaming for Leon to stop as he was charging toward Vanitas, ready to cut him open with his gunblade. Vanitas didn't move. He stood there, accepting his fate.

I wouldn't let this pass by. Reacting quickly, I shoved Vanitas out of the way. Vanitas fell on the ground roughly just as Leon's gunblade came in contact with my skin. I felt a sharp pain just near my shoulder and I could feel his gunblade puncture my shoulder. I screamed out in pain, bright velvet blood seeping through my shoulder.

I heard Leon gasp as he took his sword out of my shoulder. "Zara... Why?!"

The world slowed down. I saw myself falling in slow motion. When I hit the floor, all I saw was a blurred vision of Vanitas' feet running toward Leon and tackling him. I could hear my name being repeated over and over again until the blurred visions got darker and darker... And then there was black.
