Chapter 11

As soon as this Heartless lifted its arm to crush Leon, I instantly jumped out of the house and shoved Leon out of the way. Leon gave me a displeased look, but also shot me a grateful smile. His smile didn't last long when he shot to his feet and brought out his gunblade. "Zara stay inside! You can't handle a heartless like this yet!"

I took a step back when the heartless noticed his distraction and smacked him into a nearby wall. I squeaked with surprise at the heartless' quick reaction and ran toward the door. The large heartless took no time to hesitate as it grabbed me around my waist and clutched me inside its hand. Its grip was tight, and I felt like it was snapping my ribs. Struggling against the heartless, it didn't let go.

"Leon!" I screeched. My voice caught in a splutter of coughs as the heartless squeezed me a bit tighter. I saw Leon running toward me, running over to the heartless and slashing at it with his sword. Leon must have been insanely strong, since the heartless stumbled back a bit. It didn't release its grip on me however.

"Zara just hold on!" Leon called out.

Like I had a choice to actually do something about this.

Leon tried many times to hit this heartless, but his efforts ended up in failure. Considering I was in the picture, Leon couldn't have injured the heartless as much as he wanted. He didn't want the risk of hurting me. I felt dizzy and everything was starting to get blurry. The heartless was squeezing me too hard for me to get a good amount of air in my lungs. I focused on breathing more than panicking, not that it helped much.

I heard another voice yell, but I had no idea who it was. A blur of someone passed by, and I heard some more voices off in the distance. I had no clue who they were or what they were saying, all I know is that they were talking to Leon... Or at least I thought they were. My eyes were half closed when I felt myself lunge forward, which made my eyes go wide with shock. The grip around me loosened and I gasp for air. The glorious air in my lungs didn't last long when I felt the weight of the heartless land on top of me. I landed on my stomach, and the heartless fell on me after that. I felt like crying, I wanted more than one gulp of air. My eyes squeezed shut as I tried to endure the weight on my small body.

I heard grunts and yells. They seemed far away, but when the weight was released from my body and I managed to get more air, the voices seemed to get closer. I breathed heavily and coughed some blood onto the ground while a pair of hands grabbed my shoulders.

"Get her out of here! There's too many heartless! Take her somewhere else!"

I recognized the voice to be Leon's, but I was quite sure. The pair of hands turned into arms as they cradled me against their chest. I kept my eyes closed, feeling too weak to open them. All I cared about was breathing.

"Im sorry Zara, stay safe." Leon's voice was right next to me. I wanted to thank him, but instead my voice turned into a cough. The person carrying me chuckled.

"We'll keep her safe." I was unfamiliar with this voice, but I knew it was a boy. "Vanitas lets get going!"

Vanitas?

With all the commotion and voices and footsteps and the sound of swords clashing and just... There was too much going on... I finally slipped into unconsciousness with all the noise slowly fading away into silence.

My sleep was interrupted by some angry voices. I was a bit annoyed when my eyes opened up to two boys... One was Vanitas, but I wasn't quite sure of the other. He resembled Vanitas in a way, but instead has brown spiked hair instead of black. The two seemed to be complete opposites of each other.
