I was woken up by a phone call, it was Kate. I picked it up"Hello?" I mumbled delirious.
"Hey, Matty," she replied " I know you're wondering why I called you this early."
I check the time. It's 3:30 in the morning "No duh I'm wondering."
"Well, you see, um... my water broke."
"What?! Where are you now?!" I asked startled.
"I'm at the hospital. Charlie Scene drove me there."
"Just wondering, why would he out of all people, drive you there?"
"I can't tell you, but trust me. I promise it's ok."
"Ok then, I'll meet you there. Bye!"
The second I hung up, I threw on a t-shirt and sweat pants I found on the floor. I grabbed a pack of cigarettes and my car keys as I left my room.
When I reached my car in the murky blackness, I turned on the ignition in hopes of it starting. However, it didn't. I checked the fuel gauge, and it showed empty. I also know that the nearest gas station is ten miles away.
Damn it! I'm stuck in a rut! What do I do now? I asked myself as I paced back and forth to prevent myself from going crazy.
I kept pacing until I saw Danny walking towards me.
Why was he out here? I asked myself. Just then, I saw three others in the distance following him. I knew those figures were J-Dog, J3T, and Funny Man.
Why were they out here?
I watched them as they piled in J3T's car. Great. Now my only hope of getting to the hospital was gone. I was about to cry from frustration, but the car stopped in front of me while J3T rolled down his window.
"Get in, Loser, your child needs you!" He said with a sweet voice and a half smile.
I cried from happiness thinking that they've sacrificed their good night's sleep, just for me. I remembered how big of a jerk I always was to them, but they still wanted to help me meet my child.
I just kept sobbing until Danny piped up from the front seat "Quit crying like a little man child and get in!"
So, I cloned in the back between Funny Man (who had fallen back asleep) and J-Dog as we drove off.
While driving, I asked "How'd you know about Kate being in the hospital?"
"Charlie told us." J-Dog replied, sipping a Monster energy drink.
"He did?" I didn't think he'd ever do that or drive Kate to the hospital.
"Yes, he did. He sounded real urgent about it too." Danny explained as he struggled to keep his eyes open and was yawning.
We drove for what felt like forever, my heart beating faster each minute. Finally, we arrived at our destination, but Funny Man was still sleeping, and we didn't want to lock him in the car.
"Wake up, fatass! We're here!" I shouted.
"So what?!" He grumbled "I need sleep."
"But his kid needs him, you dick!" J3T responded angrily.
"Ugh! Fine!" He mumbled "Just let me bring my weed."
" It's not allowed here, go smoke that shit on your own time." J-Dog responded.
"F*ck you guys!" He glared at us "Let's just get this over with."
As we entered the building, we were surprised by all the people here at this time of night. There must've been thousands.
"Let's just find the receptionist's desk." I told the others in the calmest voice I could muster.
We walked around aimlessly, until we accidentally bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry," I told them" I'm looking for the receptionist's desk."
"This is the back of the line for it." The person answered.
I looked ahead, and saw 2 mile line ahead. Which didn't soothe me a bit about the anxiety I was already feeling.
Will my child be the cutest thing ever? What if it has a disability? What if it's a stillbirth? I asked myself as the line shrunk. Until, finally, we made it to the front of the line.
My heart was exploding as if there was a war going on inside of me.
"May I help you?" The receptionist asked.
I was so excited and terrified, that I could barely speak. All I could do was make spastic noises.
J-Dog must've figured out how I felt. So, he told her "Do you know where Katelynn Hadden is?"
"Yes," she replied while digging through her files "Ah, here we are. Room 214."
"Thanks." He replied.
"But first, can I get your name?"
"Jorel Decker, better known as J-Dog."
"Ok. Are you the father of her child?"
" No, I'm not. But he is." He answered as he pointed to me.
"Ok, then," she replied with a funny look and voice, almost as if someone else told her he was the father already " You may proceed."
" Thank you." J-Dog replied while we started walking towards the elevator.
As we accented, sweat rained over me and I could hear my heart beat faster and faster every second.
"It's gonna be ok." Funny Man whispered.
"Hey, for once you're being serious." I chuckled "And thanks. Thank you everyone."
When we finally exited the elevator, the others proceeded to the waiting room on this floor.
"Why are you going there? Kate's the other way." I asked.
"We've already done our part." Danny answered "Now do us yours."
"We think just you and Kate should witness the birth of your kid." Johnny 3 Tears added.
"Now, go find her and bring back the cutest child ever!" Funny Man semi-shouted.
I sniffled " Thank you. You won't regret it!" As I ran off the find Kate and meet my child.
