I run towards her, panic and worry pulsing in my veins. Yet, they stream with excitement. I grab one of her arms to attempt to stand her up. I gasp, struggling. Danny notices and wraps his fingers around her fair skin, hoisting her up.
"Thanks, boys." She murmurs, clutching her stomach to prevent more water pouring onto the rug.
"No problem." I respond "I'm sorry, Charlie, but we need to get to the hospital. We might have to miss some of the party."
"No, I understand." His blue eyes gazed intensely into mine. "Good luck, you two. I hope it goes well."
"I hope it does, too." I share as Danny, Kate, and I exit Jordan's nostalgic yet lively home.
As soon as the humid air greets me, Danny and I race to my car faster than a locomotive. Carrying Kate added difficulty, but we made it in one piece.
Driving in the sun, I'm greeted by the same anxious and excited feeling that left me for a year. My heart beats is so out of control that it needs a therapist.
"I'm so sorry about this." Kate is the first person that speaks since we started driving fifteen minutes ago.
"It's cool." Danny answers, lighting a cigarette and smoking out the window.
In no time at all, we arrive at the same white stone building where Allissa was born. Memories of that day gambit my brain, driving me crazy. My two friends understand how I feel. Danny rests his hand on my shoulder while Kate gently hugs my quivering arm.
"It's gonna be ok." Danny whispers, assisting Kate and I to a barren line at the receptionist desk.
The second we reach the desk, a nurse with smudged, red lipstick and blond, curly hair approaches us. "May I help you?" She asks in a stressed tone.
"My wife is about to give birth. We need a room." I respond, my palms sweaty.
"Ok, sir. If you could give me your name, That'd be great." She ran her hands through Manila folders.
"Matthew Bussek. Better known as Da Kurlzz."
"Ok and your name, ma'm?" She asks Kate.
"Katelynn Bussek."
"Just let me get you a wheelchair, and go to room 327." She responds, disappearing into the back room, and coming out with a wheelchair a second later.
Danny and I assist her into the chair, and I sprint pushing it towards the elevator.
Ascending, I feel the same anxiety from so long ago. My heart beats rapidly, my sweat dampens the forest of curls in my hair, my palms shut tightly. This is really happening.
When we arrive at the third floor, Danny's gentle footsteps glide towards the waiting room.
"Hell no! You're coming with us, you've done too much for me for you to miss this!" Kate's ocean blue eyes blazing impatiently.
"If you say so." He shrugs stalking back towards Kate and I.
I rapidly push Kate throughout the barren hallways, Danny racing behind us, his green eyes scanning every door for the right room.
When Danny and I arrive panting at the entrance of room 327, a staff member notices us.
He says "I'll take care of her. Follow me."
He assists Kate into the hospital bed, whiter than blank paper. In fact, the whole room resembled a plain white theme. The only piece of color came from the window showing the cheery sky and puffy clouds.
Danny and I enter our attention wavering between Kate and the window. The staff member soon leaves the three of us alone.
I sigh to myself, thinking about Allissa and how we left her on her birthday. Kate and Danny think the same thoughts as sighs escape their tiny mouths.
The three of us are depressed, regretful souls, our eyes tinted with sadness. We feel unhappy, until a sudden knock rattles the door so loudly, I thought it was going to wake the dead.
