"Good evening! I'm Emily, your waitress for today. May I take the order for your drinks now?" the young waitress asked me and Hayden cheerfully.
Did I forget to mention? After excusing herself to the toilet and Paul existing himself to answer a call outside, the couple never came back.
Those two are so going to get it from me later for leaving me alone with Hayden.
So much for having a double date.
"A lemonade, please," I answered.
"Same for me, thank you." Hayden ordered and she left soon, after scribbling it down.
My heart is pounding in my rib cage furiously and my palms are slowly starting to turn slightly sweaty too.
This isn't how I've expected the date to turn out at all!
Hell, I don't even know what I should do now.
Start an awkward conversation and end up humiliating myself or just pretend to stare at the menu like it's the most interesting thing in the world?
Oh god. I should've paid more attention during my previous dates.
Karma. This must be karma.
I decided to choose the latter for obvious reasons. However, that didn't seem to work as Hayden strikes up a conversation not long later.
"So, Caitie, have you been here before?" he asked casually as he flip through his own set of menu.
Did he just call me Caitie?
"Yeah. They serve really good pastas. By the way, I am Caitlyn or Cait for short. Not Caitie. It sounds like a kid's name." I replied, wrinkling my nose.
Very ladylike, I know.
Just as he's about to open his mouth, the beverages arrived.
"So, can I take your orders now?" the same waitress asked in a friendly tone, fishing out her notepad.
"A bolognese please," we answered at the same time.
"Sure, I'll be right back in a few minutes with your food," the waiter chuckled and walked away with our menus. Great, now I have nothing to pretend look at.
"So, Caitie, what are your plans for college?" he asked. I looked up and realized that he was staring at me, right into my eyes.
I wanted to remind him that my name isn't Caitie, but a better idea struck me.
"I am into designing and just got accepted into Prestwood College. What about you, Haydie?" I purposely emphasized on his nickname, and he smirked.
"I am not that sure yet, but I got accepted into a few colleges that would provide me with full academic scholarship so I am still considering which one I want to attend." he shrugged.
"Oh."
He must be really intelligent.
Lesson learnt today: Not all jocks are dumb.
Don't stereotype people next time, Cait.
"Anyways, Prestwood is kinda far from your house and they don't provide dorms for students. So, where would you be staying at, cutie?" he asked after a sip of the refreshing lemonade.
So we're using cheesy terms like cutie, now?
Nice try, but I'll never call him handsome out loud, especially in front of him.
Not going to happen now, not in the future too. Nope, nada never no.
"About that, I am thinking of renting an apartment near the area with Mel, since she's also taking the same course as me." I sighed.
