"Are you sure you want to go through with this?" Edward asks for what seems like the millionth time.
"You're not going to change my mind now," I tell him.
He sighs. "I just don't want you to be..."
"To be a killer." I finish his sentence.
"A killer, a murderer, or like me." He adds.
"You don't look at the positives, your thoughts are all negative."
"How so?"
"You only think of bad things that would happen to me. Yes, I understand that to survive I would need to drink blood, which would be killing animals, but we could spend eternity in each others arms, never having to leave each other."
He smiles, "As much as I am intrigued by that idea, we could live the rest of your life together, and you could live the rest of your life as a human."
"Edward," I say, "you don't understand. I want to spend forever with you, and only you."
I can't tell him that I'm scared that once I pass, he will find someone else, or that I'm scared that he will find me unappealing when I am seventy years old, and he's stuck at seventeen, and he will move on.
"Bella, what are you thinking?" Edward asks, setting his hands on my waist.
"I... I was just thinking of how perfect it would be to spend forever with you."
"It would be perfect for you to spend your remaining human years with me."
"Are you having second thoughts about marrying me?" I question.
"Of course not," he says, a small smile on his lips. "I can't wait for you to be Mrs. Bella Cullen next week."
I fake a smile and lean in, laying my head on his chest as I hug him.
"The only things I will ever regret with you are leaving you that one time, causing you any pain, and taking away your heartbeat."
"So any negative things, aside from making me a vampire."
"Including that."
I shake my head, disagreeing with him.
"You have a visitor," Edward says, frowning. "Be safe. I love you."
I walk downstairs and to the door, reaching it just as the knocking begins.
"Jacob?"
"So your bloodsucker is here," he remarks.
"Yeah, but don't say anything more, Charlie's here," I whisper.
"Will do," he says.
"Why are you here?"
"Well, I want to talk to you," he says, "in private."
"Jake, come on!" I say.
He grins. "What?"
"You said that to make him leave!"
"Yes, but we can't talk here, Charlie's here." He did this just to get me away from Edward.
"Fine, let's go, just let me say goodbye to-"
"He's gone," Jake interrupts.
"Charlie." I say.
He drops his head a little, embarrassed that I still found a way to leave his side.
I walk upstairs to find Charlie, then tell him that I'm leaving.
"Listen, Bella, I think you and Edward need a little time apart," he says. "It's not good for you two to spend so much time to-"
"I'm leaving with Jacob, he's here right now," I tell him.
"Oh," he laughs. "Good, you kids have fun."
"Let's go," I tell Jacob, grabbing my jacket and walking out the door. He follows, wearing nothing but some jeans and a black t-shirt.
I put my coat on, shivering in the cold.
Jacob starts his bike, and I hop on the back, hugging him tightly so I won't fall off.
With Jacob as a heat source, I don't even need my jacket on.
We arrive at La Push, and Jacob walks ahead of me, trying to get me to follow him.
"Alright, we are somewhere private, what did you need to talk about?" I ask him, sitting down on a log.
"Well..." He begins. "I don't exactly know how to say this."
He sits next to me, and I lean into him, trying to keep warm.
"Bella, I love you. I always have, and always will. I know you love Edward, but you love me too, you know this. Remember in the mountains? When you asked me to kiss you? You wouldn't have done that if you didn't love me."
"Jake..." I say. These talks are becoming regular things. He's trying to change my mind, and make me pick him over Edward.
"Please, Bella, just understand that I am better for you than he is. You don't have to change for me. I can give you things he can't."
"You know I need him," I say.
"You can still have him, as a friend."
"You're getting worse," I tell him.
"How?"
"You think you need to be with me all the time so I can't spend time with Edward, and you are trying harder to make me pick you," I tell him.
"I'm in love with you Bella, I can't help it."
"Jacob, my decision is Edward. We are getting married next week, you know this."
"That means I have a little time left to change your mind with some ease, after that it will be extremely difficult."
"So you're saying you'd still accept me as a married vampire?"
"Of course, you should know this."
"Well, vampires are your natural enemy," I remind him.
"That hatred goes away when you imprint."
