Chapter 27

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Warning: this is so laaaaame.

Bea's back in her slumber. Nasa bario ulit siya mag isa. Pero bawat sulok na nakikita niya ay si Jia ang naiisip niya.

After that confrontation with Jia, pumunta siya kagad dito. It's been her life whenever she's broken. She always run away.

Her team mates are calling her. But she's ignoring them. They're texting her pero hindi niya ito binabasa. Nalulungkot lang siya kasi umaasa siya na tatawagan or itetext siya ni Jia pero hindi yun nangyari.

The people here always saw her crying and they don't even know what to do.

Miguel has been in this situation before. Even before highschool, he knows Jia so well. That he is the only person outside Jia's family who knows Jia's condition.

Before college, the doctors said Jia was cancer free, but they're not sure if it's going back or not.

Ang matagal na nilang kinakatakutan ay nasagot ngayon. Jia is fighting again with cancer.

Miguel walks non stop on the lobby. Jia's team mates called her parents already and even Bea. But Bea's not answering.

After Jia fell, they rushed her here in the hospital, and she's been inside ever since.

"Totoo ba?" Tanong ni Ly.

Miguel nodded "Gumaling na siya dati, walang nakaka alam kung babalik, then here it is"

"Bakit hindi niya sinabi?" Naiiyak si Mich ng tinanong niya iyon.

"Ayaw niyang mag alala kayo. Lalo na si Bea. She's been treating Bea cold kasi sabi niya pag namatay siya, at least sanay na si Bea na wala siya. Hindi totoong nagkabalikan kami kasi mahal na mahal ni Jia si Bea at hindi niya magagawang manloko ng tao" Explain ni Miguel.

"Tita Det texted us saying Bea is on her way to the province, what shall we do?" Tanong ni Ella.

"Let her first. Though try to contact her and give her a heads up" Ly decided.

Ella nodded and together with her other team mates they tried to contact Bea.

Jia woke up with this familiar set up and with this familiar feeling.

She actually feels like she's dying. And she is.

"Where's Bea?" She asked.

"She's not answering our calls or text. Though she's back at the province" Mich answered.

Jia nodded and smiled sadly "She hates me"

"No, she don't. Hindi pa din niya alam ang nangyari"

"Stop calling or texting her. But at least, give me time to write a letter to her" Hiling ni Jia.

Mich nodded. "Okay"

Jia look at the ceiling of her hospital bed thinking what shall she do with her remaining time.

Bea looks at the letter for almost an hour now. Hindi niya alam kung dapat ba niyang buksan ito.

In the end, she wanted an explanation and she knows she'll be getting it when she opens this letter.

Bea,
I know you're hurt now. And I know I'm responsible for it. So I'm sorry. I want to start this by explaining to you. Can you believe Miguel has his new lover? His name is Joshua. Yep, you read it right. 'His' and 'Joshua'. They call it each other as 'babe' and as a good friend, I call him also like that to tease him.

Did I cheat on you?

No. I didn't, I won't and I will never do that. For the past months we're together you make me feel the happiest person alive. You're wrong, because you are and forever be the same reason why I am smiling.

Am I worse than Ej?

Yes, yes I am. I was afraid. Afraid for you. You told me that you love me more than you love someone else, so what will happen if I leave you soon? I'll break you, for sure. And I can't do that to you.

Slowly, I wanted to go out of your life, because the day will come, soon, I will be permanently be absent for you.

I have a cancer, I found out about that when my nose won't stop on bleeding, it was a symptom before for me for I already acquired the sickness before. Miguel was the only person who knows about this outside the family so he has been a good companion to me for the last few weeks that I feel like I'm dying.

I am so sorry for letting you feel that way, but I am not sorry for not telling you. I don't want to tell you this because I don't want you to fight for me when I even don't know how to fight for myself.

I let Mich deliver you this letter, and probably, when you're reading this I am set to leave the country.

Yes, I will leave, my parents wanted to fight this sickness, but I don't know if I want to.

I am setting you free, Beatriz. If you found another person who is much more better for me, I'll be happy for you whether I die or not.

If I did not and get back feeling healthy in this country, I will find you wherever you are. That, if you want me to. Give me a sign, a permanent thing I would be holding on to, maybe I'll change my mind and fight harder for myself.. For us.

One sign babe. And I promise you, I will get back to you whatever happens.

Bea can't speak. She don't know what to feel. Or she's feeling something but she's feeling numb.

While crying, she clutch the letter and stand up. She run outside, go to her car and drive back to Manila.

"Uwi ka" Miguel said.

Jia smiled weakly "I'll try"

"Don't try, do it. You already did before, do it again now. Abay ka sa kasal namin ni Josh, tapos babalikan mo pa si Bea"

Jia smiled again as she peek to the airport's door. She expects Bea to show up. And when she did, she knows she'll be having a reason to live.

But up until they are about to board the plane, there was no Bea that showed up.

Bea was breathing heavy. Buti na lang at nakapasok siya sa airport with her connections, now she's looking everywhere for Jia.

She looks up on a screen and saw a flight to US already departed. She have a feeling that, that is the plane of Jia.

She saw someone approaching, it's Miguel.

"Nasan siya?" She asked.

Miguel pointed to an airplane. "Kaka alis lang"

Bea's heart broke. "Kailan siya babalik?"

"Hoping for the best when she came back. No definite time pero sana, she's still warm" Sagot ni Miguel.

"How can I send a signal?" Bea asked, probably to herself.

"I can do that for you, I'll be leaving next week for US, I can send it to her" Miguel smiled.

Bea get something from her pocket. "Can you please give this to her and say I'll be waiting?"

Miguel nodded "Of course"

"Thanks" Bea smiled.

She's about to turn around when Miguel call her. "Yeah?"

"She loves you, and for the record, you were the same person she's thinking about up until now"

She nodded "I love her too, very much"

"Can also please tell her that?"

Miguel nodded "Naku, for sure babalik yun"

Bea smiled "Whatever happens, kahit gano katagal, I'll wait for her"
